    Default Superbug! Help!

I am scheduled through weight loss agents with Dr. Almanza March 11 and just received a message from them saying grandview hospital is closed. The cdc has closed them down! They still have me scheduled but at a different hospital. Now I am COMPLETELY FREAKING OUT! Advice? What would you do in my shoes? Plane tickets already purchased from Mississippi $1200 for me and my husband who’s accompanying me.Also surgery is already paid for. Here’s the message they sent me......

The Weight Loss Agents Team (7 Hours, 30 Minutes ago) 03/02/2019 1:18pm
The Centers for Disease Control has strongly recommended that patients not be referred to Grand View Hospital for weight loss surgery due to a recent documented outbreak of serious bacterial infections among patients who underwent weight loss surgery at Grand View. The CDC’s recommendation is in effect until such time as it believes that there is no longer a risk of contracting this serious infection at Grand View.

The good news is an appropriate alternative hospital has already been secured, and your scheduled procedure, should you agree to the change of venue, will not be performed at Grand View. This would be a small change of logistics designed for your safety, and your travel plans would be unaffected. It is our hope that you will appreciate the change of hospital while the CDC works to resolve their concerns regarding Grand View.

Being from MS your tickets probably aren't for Southwest. That's why I love them, they give back 100% for future travel.

From what I have read that superbug isn't confined to just one hospital/clinic in Mexico.

I don't know what I'd do. Probably go to the new hospital seeing I've already paid. Good luck!

Yes I’ll let you guys know how it went after the surgery. One good thing I found out after searching the boards....I THINK dr. A used to operate at HMN hospital(the hospital they are sending me to instead) in the past before he built grandview hospital. So that makes me feel a little better.

Wow! What a left turn; I agree that I would go to the new hospital, and we'll all be waiting for a great outcome for you with no problems.

I also agree with the consensus to go forward with your scheduled surgery. I’m guessing the new location will be under extreme scrutiny for HAI’s (hospital acquired infections) that you will be in good hands. Please do keep us updated on your journey!!

Only you can decide to go or not to go. I’ve lost confidence in weight loss Agents and Dr A. I’m sorry you’re in this situation. The superbug is not confined just to the hospital you were originally scheduled at. CDC is warning about traveling to TJ for surgeries. Someone in my support group is fighting this superbug. I no longer can recommend anyone to Dr Almanza. Its a joke that Dr A reviews potential patients medical history. They act like they do. If they truly review your medical history I should have been denied with my medical history. I had a Nissan Wrap plus a history of severe acid reflux. People that have a wrap can’t safely have the sleeve and the sleeve can make acid reflux worse. Dr Almanza never mentioned his plan and that I wasn’t a good candidate and was at high risk for needing a revision.Instead I was told I was a great candidate.I had the sleeve surgery and woke up vomiting and vomited for hours. I’m so lucky I didn’t aspirat. About 13mos post op I started getting sick and felt a lot of pressure and bloating in my abdomen . May of 2018 i developed breathing and A-Fib and in September I had a stroke. By October I had severe acid reflux and was vomiting no longer just dry heaves. I went back to the surgeon that did my wrap since my GI and other doctors could figure out what was going on. Had CT, Endo and 24hr PH test. Turned out my stomach was dragged to my chest cavity by a H Hernia, and my wrap was no longer intact. only option is to have a revision to Bypass. Had the revision and during that surgery They discovered Dr A had cut down the middle my wrap. My surgeon thinks thats why I woke uo vomiting.Scar tissue probably held it closed until pressure built up enough to push it back open. I almost died from complications and have had 4 surgeries and still dealing with nausea and vomiting and I get my nutrition from a GTube. I went from being in the best shape of my life and living the life I would dream about to being frail and weak. I have to start over. I just pray the nausea and vomiting stops. My surgeon doesn’t now when or if that will go away. I have overcome most of my stoke symptoms thankfully. I pray if you decide to go that everything goes well. I had my surgery at HMN. It seemed like a clean hospital and the nurses seemed caring. I was happy with my care I received my the medical team. I only saw Dr A briefly before surgery. I saw Dr Hernandez for post op care in the hospital and then another doctor at the hotel the rest of the time. The hotel staff and drivers were very caring. I’m sorry to hit you with some of my story. My reason is to make sure you know what I didn’t know. For some reason in my research I never found out it’s recommended not to have the sleeve if you have a history of reflux and a Nissan wrap. I should have had the Bypass instead. I Wish you the very best.

Well....superbugs are really everywhere!! unfortunatly even really big and efficient hospitals can get it too. When I went for my one week of tests in Paris in January, the ward had one room in insulation, and they started to test everybody when I arrived. I understantood right away what was going on and I almost packed my bags to go back home, but since I was not going to have surgery, and after interrogating the staff, I knew exactly what it was, I knew it was not a danger for me.

I think the most important for the hospital is to have an ICU, and to let you know exactly what kind of bug it is.

I mean...our health is our wealth. So I understand that there's lots of money involved, but if I was you I would get the infos before going.

    Good luck and take care.
