Default Am I being too hard on myself?

Today marks 2 weeks since my surgery. Overall, physically I feel wonderful. But I don't seem to be showing it to other's around me. This is by far not a easy journey, but the one thing I was expecting more of was weight loss. I weighed in at 308.4 the day of my surgery. I am 295.6 this morning = -12.8 pounds.

The day I came home my scale said 315 and the following morning I was 309.

I am firstly confused as to what number should be my starting number?

The other issue is I feel I have had such a short fuse with my poor boyfriend recently. I don't know why. I feel like right now I am upset with myself because to be honest I was envisioning myself loosing this much weight the first week, yet that has not been the case. Which I why I am asking what should be my starting number?

Also I feel like when I started my weight loss journey I was 393. I am so close to hitting the 100 pound mark but yet I feel so far. My body has never let me get past 297. I plateau then I give up in the past. So I am not sure if my body is still fighting that, or if it is even part of the issue.

I have a call into my doctor because he was un able to come to my 2 week post-op and I would like to speak to him.

Either way I am super hard on myself and expect more out of myself I lost 87 pounds on my own and I just want to keep going.

I just don't want to be a raging witch while in the process.

    Thanks for listening.

Yep, you are being too hard on yourself!

Nearly 13 pounds in 2 weeks - that's pretty amazing.

Remember you have just had major surgery and your body is still dealing with this and healing.
Just keep doing what you are doing, keep to your surgeons plan. Sip water all the time, work on getting your protein intake up and walk as often as and far as you are able to Above all be kind to yourself - and your boyfriend ;-)
People lose at all different rates. If you read some of the stories on here some lost very quickly and others it took longer....it doesn't matter. What does matter is that you have made a decision to do something that is going to make you healthier, and perhaps happier, and will increase your lifespan.

The fun is just starting. Wait until you are buying tiny clothes, have energy to run, yes run, around and people are commenting on how small you are.
It will work as long as you work at it too.

You are doing just fine. Keep up the good work :-)

Have you ever lost 12,8 lbs on your own?
I think it is pretty much.
Just looked it up (just, I write everything down), I lost 7,4 the first two weeks.
But never, ever, compare yourself to others.
This is you path and yours alone.

As for the rest, Kiwigal said it all very well.
And just so you know, the weeks around week three may be a bit slow, in terms of loosing.
    Some people have their three-week-stall.
    Totally normal.
    Good luck!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Your doing great. Over 12lbs a day is almost a pound a day. Keep up the great work. People will notice before you know it.

YES you are being hard on yourself, you should be super excited for what you have accomplished so far. Your body (and emotions) are adjusting to the trauma of surgery. Sounds like you're doing great! Try positive self-talk, like I lost 87 pounds on my own and then 12 pounds in just 2 weeks.

If your weight is freaking you out just put away the scale for a month. It is not at all important and it is messing with your head. You WILL lose weight without it, I promise. Have fun! My positive attitude and excitement is what got me through this journey. Best of luck to you.

Agree you are being too hard on you...the shifting hormonal balance and water retention post surgery are part of what's going on both with your weight and with your boyfriend. Maybe you should disclose to him that you feel a bit "off" and don't mean to be crabby (I call myself Queen Crabby Pants and announce my crabbiness.... )

Hi, Cassie (aka 2/5 bariatric buddy!)

Ditto what everyone here is saying. Especially to stop being so hard on yourself and realize that we all have different contributing factors to how quickly we lose weight. I also feel terrific and have had to remind myself a few times that IT’S ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS!

Just yesterday I had my two-week post-op appointment and have lost 17 lbs. While I was secretly hoping to have a larger number pop up on the scale I’m thrilled that I did lose and super excited at my physician’s reaction to my blood pressure actually being close to a normal reading after only two weeks. He walked into the room, closed the door and threw his hands up into the air and practically yelled, “Wow, only two weeks and your best blood pressure reading in over a year!” And this is after being off all my BP meds for the past two weeks since surgery. I plan on pulling out my scale ONCE weekly and using my “skinny for me” jeans to give me an inkling of whether I’m heading in the right direction and for record-keeping purposes. I did notice that I was tugging a bit more on the waistband of my jeans last week - not to get them up over my thighs and belly but to keep them from slipping down. Ha!

Baby steps, my friend! You got this!!

You are so wise to have the the skinny jeans -- when the lbs don't move, the inches do!
