    Default Dumping syndrome

Hi all. I am very new to all this an learning as I go. I don’t have a surgery date yet. Just reading some things my doctor gave me to read up on. Can you tell me more about this “dumping syndrome?” I don’t drink alcohol often but I do enjoy a few drinks once or twice a month. Will I be able to ever drink alcohol again? (Makes me sound like such an alcoholic but I promise I’m not. Just wondering)

I can't comment on the dumping part but I choose not to drink alcohol because I would rather get my calories from real food. I was never much of a drinker anyway so it's not a biggie for me. There are others here who certainly enjoy a glass of wine with dinner etc.
So in short, yes you will be able to drink alcohol (we are advised to avoid any fizzy drink so perhaps not beer or bubbly?) but it's up to you how much and how often - and certainly not in the first few months.

Dumping happens with the bypass, not the sleeve. A few drinks once of twice a month won't hurt you, and definitely won't make you an alcoholic. Most doctors advise waiting a while after surgery before alcohol. Mine said a year.

Good information posted already; I have about 1/2 of a restaurant serving of wine of choice, on rare occasions. Like most, I don't chose to have a lot of empty calories, and wine wouldn't be my favorite.

The no drinking with meals also enters into it. When I chose to have wine, I have planned my eating to include calories, carbs and whetherh I want to drink slowly prior to the meal, or after.

On New Years Eve, I was bold enough to have a brandy alexander, at Ruth Chris'. I had the bartender leave out the icecream and substitute low fat milk. And it took from 4 pm till 8 pm to sip through about 1/2 of it. Then home for cooking, so dinner was until about 9:00 pm.

Just saying, not impossible, but not a priority most of the time. As with all things post VGS, planning!
