Default Weight gain after 3 years

Hi everyone I had my first consult 2/6/19 my goal date for the surgery Im going for June. I'm just at the BMI level of 40. My biggest fear is regaining the weight after 3=4 years that. I was reading that you naturally gain weight. Please
    I need advice

There are a few "veterans" here that I'm sure will come along shortly. They have managed to maintain their weight loss for many years.

Yes the weight comes off quickly in the beginning (usually) but it's the maintenance when the work really starts. You can't be complacent, you have to work at it. You will be able to eat more as the months/years go on but hopefully in the initial period you learn new habits and embrace your new life in such a way that it all just becomes your new normal. Of course there may be times when things don't quite work out and weight increases happen but as long as you know the reason and are willing to do something about it (if you can - sometimes medication can be a problem)then you should be able to get back on track.

I am only 17 months out so not an expert by any stretch of the imagination and am still learning new things all the time through this forum.
I weigh myself every day (I don't want any surprises), I track my food intake and I weigh and measure my food. This is my new normal and I am quite happy with it. Everyone has their own way of doing things and what works for me might not work for someone else.

I think a positive mental state is a big thing too. I know that I will succeed because I have a great tool and I am working at using it to it's full potential. I love being half the size I was before surgery and I am not going to do anything to jeopardise my success.

    Good luck!

I will not regain, I just will not!
    I refuse that.
    Well, not much anyway...
I, like Kiwigal, weigh myself daily and I still track and log my food in MFP.
I also from time to time measure or weigh my food, because my eyes were always bigger than my stomach.
Every day I get my exercise.
So, it does take an effort to maintain, but then again, nobody said it wouldn't.
The sleeve works perfectly, as long as you work the sleeve.

The best thing you can do for yourself is educate yourself on nutrition, weight loss, the working of the sleeve.
    Read a lot and learn.
The more knowledge, the better you'll understand the "why and how".
    You can do it!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I echo what Kiwi and DutchSleeve have shared.

I too am only 16 months out - but I've remained +/- 2 lbs of goal since I hit it, as you can see on my signature.

I weigh myself daily; I track ALL my food, the good - the bad - the ugly. Calories count, but NUTRITION counts more.
I get my protein, drink my water, and eat (chew chew chew) slowly.

I have not yet been hungry in 16 months. That doesn't mean I haven't wanted to eat. I get on line, I talk to a friend, I journal -- but I know its not hunger, nor am I wasting away!

    Best of success!

    5 M) = 136.0 6 MO = 130.0
    1 YR = 122.0 2 YR = 140.00 2.5 YR = 139
Happy with my weight; happy with my size; over-the-moon with my health!

I'm 5 years out and will not regain my weight. I am currently 3 pounds over goal (actually 2.8), but will get it off. I hadn't changed my eating, but learned from this site a med I was on caused weight gain.

Luckily while losing you learn healthy eating habits and exercise, and you keep them up. If you go back to how you ate when you were fat, sure you could regain. Totally your choice. I choose to be healthy, happy, and regular sized for the rest of my life!
