    Unhappy Advice on EGD findings

    Hi all!

I’m super new to all this. I’ve only been to my consult appointment which was 1/30/19 and just had my EGD yesterday, 2/11/19. The doctor found that my stomach had inflammation. He said it wasn’t anything major but their was inflammation. He told me he took a biopsy to see what it was. Is this going to hold up my surgery? I’ve been super disappointed by the news all day. It’s weighing so heavy on my mind. I don’t want this to cause me NOT to be able to get surgery. I’ve never had any type of reflux or pain after eating anything. Some people were telling me it just could be that I need to take some anti acids. I dk. I just want feed back from all you that know best. Please help ease my mind.

    Thanks y’all!!!

I was having problems in 2017-- had problems with my stomach and had an egd. They found the same in me and I'm having surgey in 13 days. They also found a tumor (yes they called it that and I thought I was going to die) and said they thought it non cancerous. It turned out to be a lipoma and it is just a fatty tissue. Also, had the biopsy and no big deal. This shouldnt hold you back in any way. Good luck!

Reflux can be silent. When I had my first tests pre op they saw a small reflux during the barium test. I only had symptoms when eating spicy food, like 3 times per year. So I was very surprised.

But I'm now 3 years post-op, had an endoscopy in January. I have many issues now (came after severe asthma attacks in November, pression in my abdomen from the asthma did create a hiatal hernia) major reflux because of the hernia, gastritis. I also had a biopsy that came back negative (they were looking for barett, that can be treated with antibiotics).

So for the gastritis, I have a stronger PPI now, follow a low acid diet (NO coffee, tea, chocolate, citrus etc) and also can take Gaviscon gel after each meal to protect my stomach from reflux, and let it heal.

Most time barrett or gastritis can be treated in a few weeks.

You should not worry, but if your reflux is bad, a sleeve might not be the best option. You might need to ask your surgeon more infos about your results.

    Good luck and take care!

My feedback is listen to the professionals! Be happy you have a surgeon that isn't going to rush into anything before operating. If they do find out you have acid reflux they may recommend the bypass over the sleeve. Don't worry, just wait and see what they find out. Best of luck to you!

Hi guys! Got news from my surgeon that I am good to go. The inflammation was so slight that it was nothing to worry about. The biopsy came back negative also. Yay! Thanks for your advice all!

    Yay!
    That s good news.
