    Question texas 1205

Hi everyone. I have had a lapband for 9 years. In those years, it has broken twice. My doctor suggested the sleeve instead of fixing the band again. I am tired of the foreign body inside me and have decided to do the sleeve. So probably sometime this month I'll have surgery. I need some pros and cons and success stories.
    thanks,
looking forward to reading your forum

All I know is when I was sleeved over 5 years ago my choices were lapband, sleeve, or gastric bypass. Where I was sleeved is a now a Center of Excellence (it was not 5 years ago as it was a pretty new program) and the surgeon no longer offers the lapband due to all the problems he has seen with it.

Many here have had the same thing done as you, gone from lapband to sleeve. Hopefully they will chime in with success stories.

The sleeve has changed my life! Best of luck to you in your decision.

    Welcome!

You can read the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd surgiversary posts I made here (see the links in my signature block below). I'm 4.5 years post-op and am STILL maintaining my 100-pound weight loss.

WLS was one of the best decisions I ever made. Such a great tool for me. But, as you'll read, it's not the only tool you'll need to be successful long-term.

    Again, Welcome! And best wishes!

While not a long-timer like sraebear or Ann2, I'm about 15 months out from the VGS (which I had at 65). It's been an incredible tool to assist me in normalizing my health, weight and appearance. It's not the "easy" fix as it requires using it well, but this forum has offered so much support and information that it was pretty simple. And so much encouragement.

Welcome, I would only proceed with the Sleeve if you don’t have a history of acid reflux or hiatal hernias. You may do well like these other ladies however some still develop acid reflux that doesn’t respond to meds and require another surgery. I did great first year. Lost the weight and found my passion for hiking, backpacking,Mountain and rock climbing. Attended climbing school last spring. Then around 13months I started developing problems then around 20months I had my sleeve revised to a bypass. That didn’t go well. So far I’ve had 5 surgeries. Finally seeing the light and the end of the dark tunnel but I nearly died and My food comes from formula in my GTub. My doctor mentioned they see 4-5 pts a day require revisions from Sleeves. Good luck to you.

    Hi There and welcome
I'm also not a long timer - 17 months out and I can only tell you from my perspective...
    No cons only pros!
Half the weight that I used to be
    Normal BMI
    Happy
    Healthy
Able to walk for miles - and enjoy it
Able to keep up with our very active 7 grandkids
    Clothes shopping is now fun

It is a tool and needs you to work at it to make it work - but it does work.

    Good luck with your decision.

I am still in shock that something like that happened so far after surgery. Did you ever contact the surgeon in Mexico? If so, what was his response? When you google him you do read about many people having problems.

I'm thrilled you are on the mend. When you are back to normal I will come climb some mountains with you! We could plan summer of 2020.

I was 54 when I got the lap band. 2 years ago it detached due to a car wreck I was in. I was hit on the port side. During the Christmas holidays, I took a fall and hit my countertop with my ribs, of course on the port side. This time the tube cracked in half. Now I am 63 and my doctor told me to consider the sleeve which I decided to do. I just want to make the right decision. Tired of the foreign body in me. Thanks for your post.

    Guys,
I'm still very nervous about getting the sleeve. I feel it's the right thing after getting this lapband out of me. But I still worry about after surgery and staying focused and doing the right thing.

Welcome! Yup. Lots of lap bands end up with issues and have to convert. Are you at your goal weight or do you still have weight to lose? From the people on here who have converted they all have an easier time with their sleeve.
