Hi Teslynn, Nice to have you here. It's a great place to chat and ask all your questions. There is a search function at the top of the page too, which can be useful. How are you going with your recovery?

Thank you! I am feeling great! I am very surprised actually at how well the healing process has gone. My only complaint is the fact that everyone told me I wouldn’t be hungry for a while, while my stomach healed. Not true! I am struggling with hunger! Hoping it will pass. Thanks for the kind words!

Woooow I fear that for myself. I'm hoping to not be as hungry! Are there any foods you no longer eat? Or can't eat?

Hi! I am just at 3 weeks out. Still eating puréed food, so not quite sure about what I can and can’t handle yet. Please don’t let my complaining about hunger scare you. Everyone is different, I just guess I am unfortunate! I wouldn’t change a thing, I’m glad I had the surgery. I know it will be a lifelong change and it’s just the beginning of my journey. Good luck to you!

    Hi and welcome.

The hunger could be caused by acid reflux. Do you have something prescribed for this? If so maybe try it and see if it helps.
Every day it gets better. You are doing great!

Hi, yes I am taking Protonix. I haven’t felt any reflux since surgery and consider myself blessed on that front!

    Hey Teslynn!
Thanks so much for replying. Everyone has been scaring me about Dr. Almanza as their surgeon. Did he do your surgery? I just paid my deposit yesterday. So, there is no turning back, I guess. Did you go by yourself? I'm just so nervous and excited!

    Hi Tiffy2,
I don’t know what others have said about your surgeon, but don’t be frightened. Attitude is everything! And everyone is different. I live in West Virginia,USA and had my surgery performed by Dr. Salim Abunnajah. He and the Bariatrics team there are wonderful! My husband went with me, and I only stayed one night. Everyone has their moments of doubt. This is a life changing surgery. I woke up in a lot of pain and the first question I asked myself was, “ oh God what did I do to myself?” But by the next day, I was literally back on track with my attitude and determination. Stay focused on why you sought out this option to weight loss in the first place, a healthier, stronger, YOU! I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers

That's sort of odd that you are hungry so early on. Could it be acid reflux? Are you reaching your liquid and protein goals? I am betting that when you start food that will go away. I was on soft food my third week after surgery. Then once you get to dense protein (like a chicken breast) I PROMISE you will be full very quickly.

Happy you are healing well. You will have so much fun this first year, the pounds just magically fall off. Keep a journal with your weight (I weighed every Monday) and your measurements (I did every other month). I still like to put the tape measure around my body parts and be amazed at how big I used to be. It's surreal. Enjoy!

Thank you! I have started puréed foods and cannot consume more than a few tablespoons. I am making my protein and fluid goals, no problems there. I am taking Protonix, but starting to wonder if maybe I’m having some lactose intolerance issues with all the tummy rumblings, not hunger. Dairy is my main source of protein right now, and though I never had any problems before, I’ve heard some people can develop it after surgery. Oh joy! Lol! Will be trying Lactaid to see if it helps.

Sounds like you're doing really well, though sometimes it is like a science experiment trying to figure out what works for you. If your tummy is loud, that is totally normal for early on and nothing to worry about. It goes away.

Teslynn, so good to read the great responses to your questions, and kudos for the asking and the optimism.

I have not had ANY hunger since my surgery 15 months ago. That said, I do "know" when its time to eat because having been diabetic, I get low blood sugar and all its symptoms when it is kicking in. I'm also stimulated by wonderful smells but I have found that literally 1/2 tsp taste takes care of that feeling. But it's not hunger.

I have head hunger once in a great while -- that is, I think there is something I need to eat. However, its not anything except my old solution to boredom, stress, restlessness or tiredness. Usually drinking something or even indulging in a nap or break from what I'm doing work.

Keep us posted! Feeling fabulous is so worth all the figuring the tool out!

Welcome Teslynn! It is going to get soooo much better. You will most likely not feel hunger when you start eating solids. Also, the hunger could be mental or acid reflux. Are you on anything for acid? I had issues for the first few months and had to take Prilosec.
