    Default Dietician Visit

My wife and I went to my initial visit with the dietician. Near the end of our visit, my wife tells the dietician that she doesn't think that he should have the surgery. My wife wants me to continue with a 1200 calorie diet. So this is what I'm dealing with at the moment and it's causing great anxiety.

Sorry your wife is not supportive. A 1200 calorie diet is totally unrealistic for a large man; I don't think there is any way you could stick with that for long. None of us could, which is why we choose the sleeve. If she is not overweight she doesn't understand what you are going through. It sounds like she is scared something will go wrong.

How much weight do you have to lose? Does she realize she will have you around much longer at a healthy weight? Wouldn't she prefer a healthy, active, regular-sized spouse? Maybe some successful men on this site could chime in for better advice. I hope everything works out for you.

What do you think is/are your wife's actual objection(s) to your having WLS?

My wife and I had a serious conversation and we decided to hold off on the surgery until the fall. I'm also dealing with major anxiety and depression issues at the moment that I need to deal with before moving forward.

Do what's best for you. But I can tell you that whenever someone here asks if sleevers have had any regrets, the #1 answer is that they didn't do it sooner.

Glad you are getting help with your anxiety and depression issues. Smart.

My family and I sat and had a conversation today and I asked them if I should try one more time to do a supervised diet. They both told me no. I can understand being really sure about being really sure of wanting to do this. For me the benefits out the risks. Best wishes on your future decision.

HudsonBob, I have diagnosed MDD and GAD, severe enough to have been hospitalized several times. I stayed on my meds during the pre op and surgery, and have had a couple of med adjustments since the weight loss. But my mental health has been way more stable as my health and weight became normalized.

I have added year to my life, but more importantly, life to my years! I hope you and your wife reach the point where you can go forward. There is no way 1200 calories a day will met your nutritional needs -- that's where I maintain my 128 weight. Keep posting and investigating, even if you wait till fall. The time will pass either way....

You have to be sure that this is the right decision for you so good on you for postponing until that time comes.
I hope that you can reach a decision that benefits you and that your wife can understand. It will be really important to have her on board.
All the best and keep visiting us here.
