Default OMG...what a crazy few weeks!!

So some of you may have noticed I have been MIA for a few weeks. It started with the busy period after New Years being a bit more sporadic. Then my oldest boy came home from college (he lives with his dad for college) to spend time with us for an early birthday. (The big 21!) We were busy doing family things. Then the Friday before he left (2 weeks ago tomorrow) I was working out in my home gym. I heard a horrible crash/impact sound and then yelping. Some jackass hit a little shih tzu and kept going. They had to be speeding. It was 740 am and they were headed into the school zone. (My house is literally 50 feet from school zone!) There were kids everywhere walking to school. My guess is that they were either texting or some other form of not paying attention. I went running out to try to stop traffic and get the dog out of the street. I had a total duh moment and tried to touch the dog immediately after she had been hit. I reached and she bit me. (She fortunately drug herself out of the street and onto the side of the road.) Luckily it was only my ring finger on my right hand and she was a small dog. Another car stopped and told me that the one who hit her did not even slow down and that the dog was already in the street. It is not that the dog darted out in front of the car. There is absolutely NO reason they could not have avoided it unless they weren't paying attention. Now just remember...this ass hat was in a school area while kids were walking to school!!!
So I had to grab a towel to try to stop my finger from bleeding but I could not just leave the dog there. I had my daughter post about the incident on our subdivision Facebook page. Another lady in the neighborhood came to help since she read that I had been bit and the dog was in bad shape. I had no idea how to help her since I could not touch her. A few other neighbors stopped to help. Eventually we got her onto a towel and the neighbor who came specifically due to my post took her to an animal hospital while I went to Urgent Care. The dog unfortunately didn't make it. They were going to euthanize her but she ended up passing naturally. I on the other hand ended up with a bite that would not stop bleeding. I got to the clinic a little over 2 hours later. When I would pull the towel away and stop applying pressure it would start bleeding again in less than a 20 seconds. The doctor wanted to try to just used a butterfly stitch (the tape stuff) but it would not hold. Finally he decided he had to put a stitch in the center of the biggest part. I had to get two shots in the tip of my finger to numb it for the stitch. Then they put a splint on my finger, put on antibiotics and given pain meds. They don't like to do stitches on animal bites since they want them to be able to "ooze" and let stuff out due to bacteria in bite wounds. The ordeal cost me $497 between the visit and medications.
I went back 2 days later to ensure no signs of infection. Then a week later I went to have the stitch removed. Let me tell you it was a horrendous experience and the doctor I saw that day had the worst bedside manner. She was mean and condescending. The finger was still in a lot of pain. When she would pull on the stitch to raise it to be able to get the scissors under to cut the stitch it would send pain shooting up my arm and it felt like someone was trying to rip my fingernail out. (The wound was on the opposite side of the nail!!) She tried to numb it with ice twice. No success. She tried to use a liquid topical numbing agent twice. Still no success. Finally she put on the magnifying glasses and grabbed the stitch and cut real quickly. I pulled away (for the umpteenth time because the pain was unbearable) but she managed to get it. She was still a total bitch about it. Obviously I was not jerking away on purpose. The pain was so bad it was making me nauseous and I almost passed out a few times. So basically because the wound was deep the nerves were super inflamed, which is what was causing the pain.
Now it has been almost another week since I got the stitch out. My finger is still really swollen and I can't bend the top of my finger. I also still have numbness from the middle of my finger and up. And oddly enough the tip of my middle finger is numb. Doctor thinks there is some possible nerve damage but have to wait a bit longer to see if it improves or not. Dang. I have to wonder what I did to have karma kick me in the ass like this. I feel even worse because the poor puppy did not make it. And I only pray that karma gets that jerk driver who could hit a dog and keep going. He hit her with incredible force. I heard it from the garage when I was in there working out wit loud music playing.
Last week we also had family in town for a nieces wedding. So that was more busy work and time consuming. We are trying to get our house ready to put on the market since they are in the process of building our new one. So it has been non stop crazy. We had to get a storage locker and put a majority of our crap in there. They want it to be super minimal to stage the house for selling it. I had spent weeks packing things up. Go figure we were scheduled to move into the storage locker the day after my dog bite incident. Luckily friends helped us move. It would have been fine just the hubby and I but with the injury I could only do so much. This week has been repainting 2 rooms to make them neutral. (One is blue, one pink. We bought the house that way but have never liked them and think a nice warm creamy beige will make them more attractive to potential buyers.) We are having carpet replaced on Saturday and then we will be cleaning/prepping the house so the realtor can come in on Monday and take the pictures to list it.
So I am so sorry I have been absent but life has been truly nuts. Glad to be back. I will be sporadic the next week or so as well due to getting the house on the market.

What a hideous time you have been through!

Be mindful of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome with your finger, I developed it after a hand injury.

And isn't getting a house ready for putting on the market a nightmare!

I hope that life improves for you soon.

Hope you heal quickly! I think fingers are the most sensitive part of our bodies, I know when my son smashed his in a door and needed many stitches, getting them removed involved horrific pain. Feel better.

Oh, good grief, Christie. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Try to keep breathing and repeating whichever mantra or prayer works best for you like ... "This too shall pass!" or "That driver will burn in hell!" or "Life is precious, embrace it all" or "That doctor is such a bitch" or "God grant me peace" or "God I need a second glass of wine!" Or all of those. And more. Or different ones. Or just go for the hard stuff.

By crikey, that is a lot that you have had to contend with.
Hope that your finger is continuing to heal and that all goes well for the house sale.

    Love Ann2's suggestions!

I have never heard of that. I will have to google it. Yes....the house stuff has been such a headache. We got the pictures done today. Now the house should be listed some time this week. But finding paint and painting, moving most of the crap out, staging, having to live like a minimalist....ugh. I am ready for it to be over.

Yes!!! The stitch removal was probably the worst pain I have ever felt. And the doctor....she was such an ass. She was truly hateful. She acted as if I was exaggerating. Slowly getting better.

Hahaha Ann!! You always crack me up! Things are FINALLY slowing down. Pictures taken of house today and it should get listed this week some time. Now I can breathe. I also have just started being able to work out with weights again. So...back on track I go.

We did find the owner. They helped pay some of my medical bills. I am hoping the house does not sell too fast. Because it is hard to find temporary living when you have 4 pets. The finger is slowly healing. And we can now finally breathe a bit.
