    Default tricky one?

I desperately need some tip or advice on my breakfast habits and menue... I am not a breakfast person but I try to eat it everyday.
My problem is that after the surgery I cannot eat eggs. I get pain and it disturbes everything in the system. I have been in contact with the clinic and they say it is not unncommon to experiene that, it may or my not pass. But my stomach is not very happy with dairy products either in the morning. I get sick from what I suspect is the milk sugar. Later in the day milk products are ok. I am also celiac so for now I either eat overnight oats with plant milk or knekkebrod (sweedish bread that is crunchy like a cracker) with cheese or ham.

But, I am tired of eating the same breakfast everyday and need tips on how to improve on proteins and especilly how I can make the overinght oats richer in protein. Preferably without protein powder as I prefer to eat as natural as possible. My breakfast needs to be easy and quick to prepare and easy to digest. Anyone?

Sorry ... at 4.5 years post-op, I still have a protein drink for breakfast most mornings.

You said your tummy doesn't like milk products early in the day. Is that true of Greek yogurt as well? 'Cause that's one great source of protein.

Other than that, I got nuthin'.

What cottage cheese? Like Ann2 I have a protein drink every morning, and while I can eat eggs, not every time is successful.

I also became intolerant of milk after surgery, but I was able to eat yogurt with no problem for some reason (doctor warned me it would be very common). I eat a cup of Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt for breakfast almost every morning since my surgery. It’s 15 grams of protein, no sugar, and comes in dozens of flavors. If you aren’t used to Greek yogurt it might get some getting used to but it is a good and filling breakfast that takes no effort.

    How about avocado for breakfast?
Some salad with chicken strips or steak strips.
Tuna and sweetcorn with a dash of anything you like to zing it up or bland it down

    Sausage or bacon
    Baked beans
Canned fish such as pilchards or mackerel (I have this with cottage cheese)
    Steak even!

Smoothies spinach avocado and banana or whatever you like

Protein drink made with Hot chocolate powder
Protein muffins homemade from the things that you can tolerate and freeze them.

Variety is key and of course, its what is comfortable and what stage your tummy can cope if none of these are helpful now
perhaps going forwards they might be considered for the future as things do change from day to day.

    Think outside of the box
What can I eat that will be comfortable for me and give me protein and energy for my well being.

As soon as I looked at this as meal time not breakfast I found it easier.

The best way to improve your protein intake eating the over night oats would be to use unsweetened soy milk. (7gr protein per cup plus it's the best absorption for vegan protein because of the amino acids)
You could also use soy milk and let chia seeds soak for the night to make a pudding, or mix it with oats.

I had issues with milk for a few months post-op, it became much better after one year. My protein intake was also low the first three months, became better later, but I had strong nausea for months and that was an issue to eat many things.

My breakfast for almost two years was my home made protein shake using vegan (and often organic) protein powder (from peas or rice), ice cubes, almond or soy milk, dark coco (or no coco but frozen fruits/berries), PB2, because I could have 25gr protein per shake. Was easier that way.

Or if I had more time I would eat a kind of Greek yogurt mixed with soft cereals.

Eggs was also an issue the first year, but the easiest way to eat it was to make a scrambled/runny egg, I add some heavy cream to keep it moist. Some days it was ok, other days it was not.

Many of my Asian friends also eat tofu in the morning.
I must say I'm not into it, plus soy must no be eaten too often, especially for women with a family history of breast cancer/

Thank you for many good advices! I never thought of soy being a good source of protein. I think I’ll change to soy milk and do more overnight oats. Cottage cheese and greek youghurt is better later in the day for me. I’ll save ll of your advice and suggestions and try them all the next months.

I still have a protein shake for breakfast most days, so that's not much help to you.
Initially I tried to get creative with breakfasts, but soon gave up. I'm a creature of habit so have the same breakfast, lunch and snacks most days.

However who says that you have to have traditional Breakfast food?. Why not left overs from dinner the night before? Chicken, fish whatever you fancy really.

You can include the following things in your everyday breakfast plate:
    1. Vegetable smoothies - spinach, beets, carrots etc
    2. Yogurt
    3. Flaxseed and quinoa
    4. whole wheat breads
    5. Lentil broth
    6. Fat-free chicken stock
