Breast implant illness. Has anyone heard of this? I have... now... 4.5 months after getting breast implants. If any of you are considering implants, I recommend checking out the Facebook page Breast Implant Illness and healing by Nicole. I'm probably going to have to leave that group because it is making me insanely worried now, but I sure wish I had seen known about it before I got implants.

I was watching a French documentary about cosmetic surgery last week. One of the doctor said he never understood why his colleagues decided to use the structured breast implant because it was predictable it would cause infections. So he never used those and was glad because many people are getting the structured ones removed and replaced by the smooth ones. So many surgeries could have been avoided!! The structured implants are now forbidden in France.

I've been really sick since my arm lift/tumor removal, to the point where I think I will probably not do the tummy tuck, even if it's really needed to repair my muscles. I'm just too worried and have now two other surgeries to get, and those are needed badly.

At this stage I think you can get sick from any kind of surgery, and it could be from catching an infection at the hospital, to have bad reaction to medication, too much bleeding etc.

If so far you have no symptoms, after four months your body probably accepted the implants.
Of course watch any symptoms that could show up, and I understand why you are worried: I have to take a PPI again, to get ready for a surgery to repair my stomach and help my lungs heal after infection.
I do have side effects and that medication that we take for months or years is not supposed to be taken more than a few weeks!

So here is what I think. Your surgery is done. You did it for a good reason, to help your body image because on some level it was painful. That is a valid reason. The same people would have to take a pill against depression or anxiety.

Look at those implants as a medication, it's here to help you, it can have side effects. But for now it doesn't.

    Take care!

Yep, big deal here in the Netherlands.
The ones that were forbidden in France?
They were also used the Netherlands... and they are also forbidden now.
I sure don't want you to get more worried than you probably are right now, but a lot of women had them removed.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I am a BC survivor with implants -- I don't remember the first kind I got, but they got all weird and we took them out. I did not get will (oh yeah, contracture). Any way, I have "Gummy" bears and they are great, and no issues.

Sometimes the internet scares us in a good way -- but you know you own body and I suspect you would know if you were getting ill.

I am not I'll so far, but it is early. And yeah, those textured ones have been recalled. The can cause a type of lymphoma that only implants can cause. I, thankfully, do not have those. I have the Natrelle Inspira silicone gummies. According to all the people in the facebook group, ALL implants make you sick. Honestly, I believe they are creating mass hysteria in that group. There's over 60,000 members, and these women are running in droves to get them out. Some are left horribly disfigured. I can't help but think there's going to be a lot of extremely depressed women in that group who have now deformed their bodies only to find out they dont feel better afterwards and their symptoms were simply from the natural process life. Sure, I think some women may truly be sick from them, but no way all these women are. I do know that I would not have gotten them had I known, because I really loved my small, perky boobies after my lift. I really only went through with getting the implants because I'd already paid for them. That's a really dumb reason to get them. I dont like them. They look pretty good, but they feel foreign and heavy. I would have been happier with just the lift. It's done now. They aren't making me sick yet. At least I know what to watch for if the time comes that they do cause issues.

I know lots of people with implants that have no issues. And some have had them a really long time. (20+ years) I don't think all implants make you sick. And yes...I would leave that group. I mean, I would make sure I knew warning signs but keep reading their posts and you will probably start to imagine you are having issues when in reality you aren't.

Christie, me too, and when I mention that in the group, they all say those people just dont know to connect the dots. They are convinced that every damn thing that happens to them is because of their implants. I know this can't be true because I have been diagnosed with all those things at different points - seizures, dystonia, fibromyalgia, fatigue, brain fog. All my symptoms started one month after my hysterectomy. So far, since I got my implants in August, I do notice that I itch all the time and my vision is crazy blurry. Maybe it's my implants, maybe not. I am glad to be aware now, but all that hysteria is not good for me.

I did specifically think of you l, Christie. I know you're considering them. I would not get them if given the chance for a do over. Not because they're making me sick but because they just aren't comfortable. The lift, on the other hand, was perfect, and I highly recommend one of those.

With the new house I am not even thinking of them right now. And with the strength training my boobs are bothering me less and less. My hubby says they feel firmer. LOL.
