    Default Lying Doctor?

So today I had my annual appointment with my PCP, who said, "You aren't 62 are you? You don't look 62!?" Not sure if she says that to everybody, but it made me feel good. I don't FEEL 62. But I do wish there was a surgery to make you younger.

Wait until you have climbed that mountain and have that picture of you with the flag on the summit!
He will award you and hang that picture in the waiting room!

English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

No way do you look 62 -- except for you that beautiful is what 62 looks like@ Like weight, its just a number.
    [I]HW: 240 lbs SW: 199 lbs GW: 140 lbs

    1 MO = 167.0 2 MO = 156.4 3 MO = 148.4 4 MO = 140.6
    5 M) = 136.0 6 MO = 130.0
    1 YR = 122.0 2 YR = 140.00 2.5 YR = 139
Happy with my weight; happy with my size; over-the-moon with my health!

So true, our health is our fortune! After caring for my ailing mom all year and losing her this past summer, hubby and I made the decision we are not going to sit around now that we just retired. We are going to do crazy stuff as long as we are physically able. Mom was huge on exercise and travel too until she hit about 89, and then it was a fast downward slide. So maybe we're good till 89!

Loved when I saw this on Facebook, my theory on life!

So hope we can do it! I know we are both in good enough shape for the climb, but I guess the main reason people fail to summit is altitude sickness. (19,000 feet!!) And there's no telling who will get it or not, often it's the young, super fit guys who get sick, probably because of big egos and going too fast. Sounds like the secret is to hike slowly, drink tons of water, and sleep a little lower than you've climbed each night. I'll also have to pack snacks, as they want you to eat three big meals a day and I can't do that. I'll bring "to go" baggies!

Katrina, you are one in a million, an exception to every rule. You eat junk, smoke, don't exercise, yet are super skinny and beautiful! I seriously don't know how you got so lucky, when the rest of us have to watch every bite. (Just gained FIVE pounds over Christmas). I do worry about the effects on your body of you throwing up so often. Could be nothing, who knows, I'm not a doctor. Maybe your primary care physician would be able to help? I don't have any bariatric insurance, so would not be able to go back to where I had surgery for advice either without paying out-of-pocket.

Sharon did say you are lucky, I do believe that eating junk food, smoking, not protecting your skin, if you have no wrinkles...you do attract luck!

But how our skin is aging is mostly genetics. What about the aging of the inside?
The point is that smoking is actually giving you a higher metabolism, vomiting is preventing you from calories absorption. So you don't gain weight. But eating a whole food diet will prevent you from gaining if you quit smoking.

And I hope you will quit smoking for good. Because I did smoke myself (in an other life, conditioned by my smoker parents who couldn't care less I had asthma and they smoked indoor...) but I did quit when pregnant for the first time.

Quitting is very hard, I was pregnant, starving all the time, in bed rest for most the pregnancy, developed gestational diabetes, and I went from overweight to obese during that pregnancy. I had cravings for that poison for TEN YEARS!! this is how toxic cigarettes are. But so far if I can't quit chocolate, I was mysteriously able to fight the smoking and never had a relapse.

May be you could try the patches? or the gum? please do get support, people who have support are more successful.

Because smoking does increase reflux, as do junk food, because it's full of additives and to make it attractive to your palate, the food industry do add lots of acidic things, of course its 100% chemical. Of course it's useless calories, junk food contain no vitamins, and make your glycemia spike.

My main concern is that major reflux do induce vomiting. And that could be a long term issue for your GI track, your teeth, and your health in general if your body is deprived from essential nutriments.

I can tell, my "silent reflux" (I managed without PPI for months) did damage my lungs, and my teeth, because it got worth and I didn't even know. Nothing too bad for the teeth, but my lungs are still in trouble.
And yet I'm eating a "low acidic diet"....don't even have coffee everyday..

I do have a personal interest in nutrition and naturopathy, but I don't want to be a pain about it. And I'm not a food snob.

Nutrition is our first medicine and I did major changes in mine over 20 years ago. My husband who was raised on "saving on food" was not a believer but he can see that many things improved each time we addressed issues and did adapt our diet when necessary. He had skin issues (psoriasis) when we were teen, it's long gone.

Changes do not need to be drastic, it can be little by little because it's hard to change a diet you had since being a kid. But adding fresh fruits and veggies, even if you keep part of the junk, will on the long run help for sure.

Please do be aware of all the altitude sickness signals, especially compromised judgement. I lost a dear friend on Nanda Devi, and she had been an experience hiker for years (her dad was Willi Unsoeld). She just refused to go down or have treatment. But you will be surrounded by good energy and prayers of your friends for a wonderful experience.

We are going with the #1 tour operator, and yes, if they evaluate you and tell you to go down, you go down. Not worth risking death that's for sure. Hubby and I made an agreement that if one of us gets sick the other will keep going.
