    Default Severe GERD

Hi All i had my sleeve in March 2016. For the last year i have had such terrible GERD. Ppi's no longer work and i have a constant bitter and sour taste on the sides of my tongue and in my mouth. Has anyone else experienced this and if so please advise how you stop this and deal with your gerd. I am so desperate nothing is helping.

What does your doctor say? I don’t understand how people develope new problems so long after having surgery. It’s awful. So sorry this is happening to you.

I’m so sorry. Our you elevating your head with a wedge pillow? Also make sure you don’t eat at least 4 hours before you lay down. You might need to try taking a poi in the morning and in the evening. Have you tried Dexilant 60mg? Also check your diet and make sure your not eating acidic foods or anything Spicey. If none of these things work you should check back in with your doctor. You may need a revision if nothing works and if it’s bad enough. I want to warn you it isn’t any easy surgery. I’ve had all kinds of severe complications. Currently my nutrition comes from TPN through my central line and have a GTube were all my meds go. Only sip on water or occasionally can get in some sugar-free Jell-O but I do have a severe nausea all the time so I live on Phenergan and Zofran. Not everyone has complications but some do. Hope you can get better without surgery. Pray you can find something to help you. One last thing is to make sure you haven’t developed a hiatal hernia. Your GI should do a endoscopy & CT scan with contrast.

Unfortunately the solution is often a revision to bypass. That is one of the potential pitfalls of sleeve...especially if you have pre existing gerd. Talk with both your surgeon and PCP.

Thank you for your reply , is the Dexilant a ppi?I find that the ppi's I have taken which is Nexium, Trustan, Ultak and topzole make the bitter and sour taste in my mouth worse. Gosh I am so sorry to hear what you are going through, doc said the only thing he can recommend is to have the rou en y bypass. Is this the op you had?
