    Red face Hello from Tx

    Hi everyone!

    I am a 35 y.o. from The Woodlands, Texas!

I am 10 days post op gastric sleeve. I am on the full liquids stage for another 7 days. I am wondering if anyone had any ideas? Im so over the jello, the soup. Anything that anyone else did to add some variety?

    Thank you!

Protein shakes? Jazz them up by using different flavours - adding some sugar free syrups.

I drank a lot of protein shakes, I had a protein goal to meet starting the day I got home from the hospital. At 2 weeks I could start mushy foods. Looks like you have to wait a little longer.

There's sugar-free pudding, Halo Top ice cream, high-protein iced coffee, and bone broth.

Unfortunately, options are somewhat limited while you are on liquids, but this will be water under the bridge when you look back at this stage in your life.

    Good luck to you.

    Hello from Texas, too,

I am almost a year post--op, but remember the liquud phase well. I depended highly on popsickles, broth, and my shakes. I would make my shake as directed, add ice to it and sip on it all day. I stayed satisfied doing it that way. I agree with you about jello. After the surgery, i could not handle the texture.

Good luck, I know you can do this.

I did protein shakes, bone broth, sugar free pudding and I drank Powerade Zero. I was so tired of water & the liquid stage by the time I went to my 2 week post op appointment. They released me to eat whatever I wanted (suggesting to chew whatever it was to the consistency of applesauce) at my 2 week post op so I didn't go through the timed pureed and soft food stages. I am 73 days post op now and finally feel like I have it down. When I did eat jello, I put cool whip on it because it was getting old rather quickly. If your stomach can't handle protein shakes like mine the first couple weeks, drink on some bone broth. It is 7g protein per 8 ounces. Good luck!

Protein shakes, broth, soups, sugar free popsicles. I also loved hot tea in the beginning as I did better with warm and hot liquids versus colds. My favorite was espresso, fairlife milk, and Splenda. But had no issues with sf popsicles. LOL. Hang in there. It will go by fast.

How long were your liquid stages? I am supposed to do 2 weeks (tomorrow) and after my dr sees me (this Thursday). Lord! Can I get some advice? I mean 4 more days during the holiday season of just liquid is killing me! I am so bored and wanted to know what you guys think? If it wasn't Christmas, I would see my Dr. Tomorrow and I would be eating some meat (finally). But here we are stuck, Monday (xmas eve) and Tuesday (xmas), Wednesday is surgery day for him. Thursday seems so long when Monday is my 2 week date. What do think? Can I just slowly try some pureed?

I don't think it would hurt. I was so upset when my doctor released me at my 2 week post op because I felt like he threw me to the wolves. I think I made a post about it. If you go to my profile, I think you can find it and read all the comments. Basically, everyone told me to do what was best for me. I thought I was ready for foods since he told me I could eat. I was wrong. It takes awhile to get to the point where your stomach can tolerate food. If you are going to try pureed, don't let your first couple days be anything heavy. Try a bite of cottage cheese. Chew it til it is almost liquid. I promise it's going to feel different swallowing food than it does liquid. If you puree to the point where it's a drink, do 1/4 cup at a time. Wait a couple minutes to see if you're satisfied. If you aren't, do another 1/4 cup. Our stomachs are only able to handle 1/2 cup at this point if its straight liquid. You are going to notice that the same foods you liked before might taste different or just that your stomach isn't ready for it yet. Don't make a lot of one thing til you know you can handle it. Mashed potatoes, sugar free pudding, yogurt and soups were my friends at this stage. Good luck!

Thank you! I tried mashed potatoes and ground turkey (I put it through the food processor). It was a success! Thank you so much! I have my 1/4 cup packed away for Christmas at my families house tomorrow!

    You're welcome.
I hope you enjoy your Christmas meal! I had my surgery in October so when Thanksgiving rolled around, I couldn't eat much at all. I had a very small sliver of turkey and half of a deviled egg. I was so full. Don't do that to yourself. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!

    Hi

Kingwood TX here. Each of is different. Try different things and see what does and doesn’t work. I tell a story about a guy in my sleeve group who ate a street taco two days after being sleeved and it worked for him. He lost all of his weight and has maintained very well ever since.

I was eating lentils with ground up andouille sausage in it at two weeks. However, I couldn’t move on to solid foods for almost three months.

Each of us needs to find what works for us and game the hell out of it. Keep trying new things. Believe me. You will know almost immediately if you’ve made a bad choice.

I'm down in Galveston and was sleeved a little over a year ago. Yogurt and cottage cheese are saviors in the beginning. I got tired of sweet, so I would season my cottage cheese with savory spices. Check out some of the old posts under the recipe forum too. There's some good ideas in there.

HI there. I am in the same boat as you. I am in the pureed stage and my doctor has asked me to not move out of it until I see him again. Which is not until Jan 16!. That means I moved from liquid to pureed in 10 days and now I am stuck in pureed for a month! I am already so over it.

I have started doing "mostly" puree with some small chunks. I just miss chewing! Last night I made some egg salad with very very tiny pieces of egg in it. Still mostly puree but I was so happy for a different flavor, I danced the whole time I made it. I am sick of yogurt, soup and protein shakes. I needed more variety.

But then, even though I know I made a safe and healthy choice, I felt guilty because I felt like I was cheating somehow. Such a silly thing to give myself a guilt trip over. But that is a really good example of my relationship with food and how I managed to get in the situation I am in to start with.

All in all, I am too new to feel like I can off good advise - so I commiserate with you instead!

My first two weeks after surgery were liquids, primarily protein drinks. At week three I could start mushy food. Here's my diet progression if you may find it helpful:

Don't get too excited about eating meat. My first piece of chicken was quite painful! Stick to the schedule. Good luck!
