    Default Skin conditions

    Greetings forum members,

I was sleeved in late August and have been experienced g extremely dry skin. I know it is partly due to my scleroderma (a skin condition on the rheumatoid scale) but it has never been this horrible. My skin is so dry and no matter what I use, I can’t seem to moisten it. I’m staying hydrated, but my job is so warm with dry heat I can’t get enough fluids in, at least I don’t think i am if my skin is so dry. My kidneys are another sort. I know I’m putting out enough liquid in proportion to what I’m taking in. Now my issue is a rash. It’s wll over my inner and top of my thighs, and is spreading to my stomach. It’s a bit painful. I’m only 33, so I don’t think it’s shingles. I don’t know what to do. Any recommendations for a cream or lotion?
**visiting my internist tomorrow for my b12 shot. Will show him.

It absolutely can be shingles if it is only on one side of your body. Anyone who has ever had chicken pox can get shingles. Some kids even get it. I found that out because I had shingles a few months ago. I would suggest going to your doctor to confirm if it is possibly shingles. If it is shingles it can last a while since you did not start antibiotics right away. I was fortunate enough to catch mine early. I noticed my skin seemed to hurt and then the rash came out.

    Hi Christina,

Sometimes help can also come from the inside.
I had really dry skin right after the sleeve, and also after my surgery this Summer.

Each time I was not taking my Omega 3, and taking it back when my stomach was healed did help a lot.
For dry skin I also use organic Rose hip oil, really efficient compared to lotions.

    An update,
I went to my dr. Yesterday. It’s on both legs and my stomach. He did not think it was shingles. Gave me a course of steroid to combat it and I made sure to moisturize with a soothing oatmeal based lotion that is scent free, as scents can irritate my skin.

    I’ll keep you all posted.
    Thanks

    Hi Christina.
Yes, I didn't think that it was shingles - it was too far down.
I am so sorry for you that you have scleroderma (I am sure that you have researched this via Dr Google). This is a complicating factor, as I am sure that you are aware. So what you are dealing with is "out of the ordinary".

What I can advise, topically, from having attended numerous health professionals updates in the past on sessions dealing with infants/toddlers with severe excema, is to only use pH neutral skin cleansing products (which have the least disturbance to the "acid mantle" layer/protection to the skin - Dr Google), followed up by moisturising with pH neutral products. Then applying your prescribed steroid cream. Apparently, the steroid cream is better absorbed from moisturised skin rather than dry.
I hope that you find this useful, and I hope that you find relief from your extremely dry (itchy?) skin.
    All the best,
    me.

    Denzel,
Thank you for the advice! I’ve been using (of all things ) Johnson’s oatmeal baby wash and lotion. It helps. I was so leery to put anything on it. But it’s cleared up.

I’ve always had sensitive skin, but it wasn’t until I had a severe UTI In 2013 that I was seen by a rheumatologist and subsequently a dermatologist who diagnosed me with the localized scleroderma. It’s shitty to say the least but I know it’s not the worst case of it. More inconvenient than anything else. I know I have to be careful of drying my skin about especially in the area where the localization is. But I manage.

Hope you're on the mend soon. I, too, have been experiencing dryer skint than normal since my sleeving (9-12-18) especially my legs. SO ITCHY!! I'm going to try some of the baby soap/lotion you mentioned to see if it helps!

It sounds like you have a serious problem that needs to be seen by a doctor. Your problem is probably from within, and until you start treatment, no creams will help much. I can only advise some care. Since you have to use soap anyway, make sure you choose the most delicate one, I recommend this https://mildsoaps.com, I`ve been using it for a long time and it isn`t drying at all. During treatment, change your whole care routine to cosmetics free of alcohol and parabens. These ingredients are very drying. I guess your doctor will also give you similar recommendations.
