    Default Still awaiting approval!

I'm so sorry to complain, but I just feel so aggravated. I was done with my prerequisites for surgery 16 days ago and I called the insurance today and they still have not received my file yet. They told me it only takes 24 hours to approve it once they receive it. I did email my Dr and got a response last Friday and she told me that it was being put together and that I was close and surgery would be late January early February.

I'm sure that this time next year it will be as if I never had to wait that long, but when I have already had to wait 6 months, it seems as if it will never happen!

I'm really worried of my care of heartburn and this surgery after I someone posting of their troubles. I'm not really keen at all about gastric bypass, but have decided to do what my Dr thinks is best. Has anyone had the sleeve with gerd controlled with meds? Thank you all!

Hang in there. The one bad thing about the insurance process is that it feels like it takes forever. But once you get approved and have a date it will fly by.

    Grammy2s&c,

I used to have severe heartburn (GERD) as well as Gastritis and IBS symptoms. I will admit, the first days after surgery were the worst. The body doesn't adjust right away to needing lower quantities of acid for the smaller stomach so it can be an issue at first...
Having said that, the pocket of recurring gastritis was removed with the surgery. I am no longer in dire pain that I was. AND the IBS symptoms have disappeared. I cannot tell you how relieved I am. But everyone is different.
It's really nice to not be afraid to eat again.
All the best, and message me if you want.

Thanks so much. I haven't heard anything, but am hopeful that next week I will hear something.

I'm really hoping to have the sleeve instead of the bypass. I will keep you uodated!

After hearing Tamara's story I would definitely do the bypass, she almost died!! I would get opinions from more than one gastric surgeon and go with what they say, as I'm sure every situation is different.

As far as waiting, I always tell people to be thankful they have insurance. I know the wait is a pain, but not as much of a pain as $14,000 out-of-pocket.

Best of luck on your decision and having your surgery done soon.

I'm definitely going to be talking to my surgeon about the type of surgery I'm going to have. He recommended a different one. I really don't wanna do gastric bypass, but may have to be my choice. Thank you for all your help everyone!

Good news! My surgery was approved today! Talked to the insurance today and they said the Dr's office put a date of Jan 21st! Can't wait to hear from them. It's finally becoming tangible. Will be talking with the Dr again about the type of surgery I will be having.
