Oh Tamera. I am so sorry you have had to go through all that. I feel so blessed to not have had any issues. And for yours to come out so far after surgery when one would presumably be in the clear. Sending you prayers, healing vibes, and virtual hugs my friend. Hope you are back to your happy self soon!

I urge you to talk with a doctor that does all bariatric surgery not just one. I can’t tell you what to do except to tell you if you have a history of acid reflux and hiatal hernia your a poor candidate for the sleeve. one reason is you build up pressure that eventually leads to problems and you can develop more problems with hernias. If you had a nissan for your hernia repair that can not stay with the sleeve. my sleeve ended up in my chest wall sitting on my lungs and heart along with adhesions so I developed a-vib and breathing problems which caused a stroke 9-9-18. Sleeve not a simple awnser. i don’t mean to scare you but am trying to prevent others from making the same mistakes. And needing a revision which is what got me in this situation and i was like you not a fan of the bypass, now i wish id done that and saved myself all this trouble. i paid cash and. didn’t know sleeves weren’t good with my medical history. wish id just had the bypass and my wrap would still be intacted, my doctor cut my wrap down the middle. Good luck to you.
TPN is life saving mixture that goes through a central line and gets into your bloodstream. I wish you all the best

Omgoodness that sounds like a horrible process! I'm so sorry you have gone through so much! It kind of makes me nervous because I had a hiatal hernia removed 4/11/18 and the sleeve done 10/11/18. I have been off all ppi's since April and have only had heartburn once since. Other than the heartburn after the sleeve which the antacid they gave me after surgery worked really well. My doctor told me that it was safer to remove the hernia pre-sleeve because the recovery after the sleeve would be horrible if he did it during. I also had to have the sleeve as opposed to the bypass because I have MS & my symptoms have been horrible as of late. I'm not familiar with what revision means exactly...

Hi Christie, I appreciate your kind message your prayers and the virtual hugs. Unfortunately I should never of had the sleeve surgery with my history acid reflux, hiatal hernia with nissan fundoplication wrap. I wished I would’ve picked a surgeon that did all bariatric surgery not just The sleeve so he would have pick the best one for my history. My surgeon should never have agreed to do the sleeve on me with my history. Long story short it was just a matter of time before developing significant problems with my sleeve I’m just thankful that I lost the weight with the sleeve and improved other areas of my health so wasn’t for nothing. Thankfully I’m finally seeing light at the end I have this dark tunnel that I’ve been in. Thankful that I Concurred head hunger since I haven’t had anything to eat or drink since Thanksgiving

hi Michelle I also have MS I had to have my sleeve revised to the bypass because I developed another hiatal hernia that put half on my sleeve stomach up in my chest wall cavity were I developed tons of adhesions that even caused a fib because of the pressure that my stomach was putting on my heart and lungs . The surgeon that did my sleeve surgery cut my nissan fundoplication wrap. given my history I should never of had the sleeve surgery I pray you continue to do well and not develop acid reflex or another hiatal hernia. I did great for the first year and then I developed all kinds of problems with my stomach including another hiatal hernia. I’m happy to answer any questions if you have any. Sorry to give you a scare. I pray you continue to do well. I appreciate your kind words too

    Tamera,
thank you for the information. I am truly sorry you are going through this.

I know there can be complications, but I didn't think they would ever have been like that.
I suffer from acid reflux, but not severely. it is only really a problem during pms...so I guess well controlled. I did take omeprazole before (20mg) and (40) after to combat the horrible feelings of nausea and such. But I have been seeing my gastroenterologist for years and he cleared me. I had bouts of gastritis and IBS symptoms before surgery, stress inducing them to a worse state. Working two jobs at 60+hours a week will do that to you.
But I am one of the lucky ones from what I understand. The healed gastritis pocket was in the area of removal, and I have since cleared up ANY IBS SYMPTOMS. I could not be better for it.
As is often said, no two stories are the same. I know how lucky I am, and I will continue to make this journey knowing that.
    Take care,
    ~*~Christina~*~

Tamera, I am so sorry you've had such a tough row! I had a second surgery & blood transfusions with my sleeve, but it was slow recovery. And I didn't go through all you have. Prayers and healing thoughts!

Omgoodness, no, don't apologize. I am a little worried but it's nice to know that I can ask you questions if I need to. Did you HAVE TO have the revision? What is a revision exactly? If they ever say I had to, should I say no? I mean, seeing how I've already had the sleeve. I did 10 months of research before my surgery and everything I've found, good stories/bad stories/medical facts/history, etc., I never seen anything about not having the sleeve if you've had prior issues with acid reflux and hiatal hernias. I may have said this already but my surgeon had told me in April that it would be better for me to have the hernia removed a couple months before the sleeve so that I have a better chance at not getting another one. Obviously, I can't read everything there is to know about the types of surgeries in 10 months along with the pros and cons so I know my research wasn't in vain but could you tell me what symptoms I should look out for? You might definitely have to quote me in order to answer all my questions. Lol. Did you have any relapses after your surgery? I really truly believe that everything happens for a reason and I wonder if your reason is to be that source of information for those of us that don't know any better. You should document all this and put it on youtube. The least the doctors could do is make you aware of the risks of having a sleeve after acid reflux so that we can make an informed decision. And I am so sorry you have MS. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy... and I have a few. Lol. It's nice to know that i have a fellow warrior on this page. I'm so glad you are starting to see the light in the dark tunnel. We are praying for you, sending positive vibes & all that good stuff. Can't wait to see the post that you are home feeling your normal again!

Thank you! Thankfully my doctor here in the states got the insurance to cover the revision and all of these complications due to the surgery I had in Mexico. The doctor in Mexico is somewhat to blame for this disastrous situation I find myself in. I had had a Nissan Fundoplication wrap perform because of a p previous Hiantal hernia and severe acid reflex From gastroparesis. he cut my wrap in half and I think the first year the wrap was sealed by scar tissue and then I felt this enormous amount of pressure that caused the wrap to re-open where it was cut and I developed another hernia and severe acid reflux. The Mexico Dr. should have told me that I was not a good candidate for the sleeve since I had this wrap done and the Mexico Dr never told me he was cutting my wrap.
