    Red face Rivision

Wasn’t sure how I should share my story. Turns out with my history of acid reflux and hiatal hernia and having a Nissan fundoplication (which is a wrap on the opening of your esophagus ) I had to have my sleeve revised to a Bypass. Looks like Dr Mario Almanza never should have excepted me and should have referred me to a doctor that did the bypass. Instead he took my money and decided to cut the Nissan wrap in half and left it. Probably why I woke up vomiting and lasted for hours. He never told me what he done. Since surgery I developed a hiatal hernia and severe acid reflux. I also developed breathing problems and a-vib. When the doctor performed my new surgery on Friday found half my stomach in my chest cavity sitting on my lungs and heart. So my stomach was put back we’re it belongs, removed the hernia, removed the Nissan wrap, turned my sleeve into the bypass. Thankfully this was discovered before it killed me. I was becoming very sick and malnourished. This maybe the cause of my A-Fib which caused a stroke in September. I feel awful I recommended Dr Almanza. It’s scary how long after a surgery Negligence can appear!!!!!! Thank God too my doctor got my insurance to cover!!! One take
On my experience is if you have a history of reflux and hiatal hernia don’t go with the Sleeve go with the bypass. That’s something I didn’t come across in my research. I’m happy to answer any questions.

I'm having my surgery within the next 2 months and my Dr reccomend I di the bypass and I'm pretty adamant I want to do the sleeve. I have pain under my sternum if I don't take antacids. I don't have burning, so I'm not sure if I have reflux. Anyway, I'm really torn what to do. Sorry about all your problems & I'm do glad your Dr fixed you up. Hoping you feel better soon!

I can’t tell you what to do but I do recommend you make sure you don’t have reflux and make sure you our a candidate for the Sleeve so down the road you don’t have to undergo another surgery. Find out why your doctor wants you to have the bypass. Does he also perform the sleeve surgeries? Sorry your torn on what to do. Good luck with everything. I pray you will be guided on what’s best for you.

That was some complication you had going there!
I am glad something could be done about it.
Did you have your bypass in the US?
I hope you feel better soon!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Thank you. Each day is getting better now. Yes my surgeries were done by my surgeon who did my Nissan surgery 7 years ago and the bypass part done by a bariatric surgeon out of Portland Or. I’m st one of the best hospitals in Oregon. I have no plans to go back to Mexico for surgeries. I originally wanted to return for plastic surgerie. I will now just save up and plan to pay more in The states .

So scary, I hope you're doing better. Is the A-fib something that should go away? That's serious stuff. We need you back to hiking, mountain buddy!

Mexico has always scared me, after being on this site for about 6 years I've heard some real horror stories. I know I had at least 5 hospital visits/classes before surgery, and that can't happen there. I've read about people being carried in stretchers up many flights of stairs, or the guy knocking on your hotel room door to sell pain meds. (Just the hotel bugs me. Are hotels sterile like hospitals should be?) But I also know most of you do great in Mexico, so don't yell at me. I know complications happen in the states too. The one thing that really gets me is how in Mexico they will do surgery on anyone, even those with very low BMIs. Anything for the money I guess.

Hope to be seeing some hiking photos soon. Miss them, and hope you're back to your old self in no time.

Thank you Ann. Good news is since surgery no nausea, A-Fib and stomach pressures. I want to update you on my stroke and paralyzed arm. Arm is mostly caused by a crushed radial nerve. Good news is in time the nerves should heal and My Neurologist feels I’ll regain the use of my arm and hand. I plan to be back on the mountain by Summer. I’ll keep you posted. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Ann.

Hi fellow hiking buddy, You won’t have me yelling at you regarding your take on Mexico. This as me against traveling out of the country for surgeries. It’s scary because I thought they had done such a great job then to find out almost two years later what they did would have killed me. Bariatric doctors in the states perform both bypass and sleeve and will make sure you get the right one for your health history. I haven’t had an A-Fib episode since surgery or nausea. Looks like most of my arm paralyzes caused by a crushed radial nerve. Doctors hopefull eventually will fully recover. My deficits from the microburst stroke is inproving. Plan to be back on the mountain this Summer. Happy Thanksgiving

Thank you Christie, yes I was so lucky I have such a great Dr willing to go the extra mile to get it covered. So thankful after 5+ hrs of surgery no complications and each day a little better. Im hoping too the adjustments period goes ok and my body does well with the bypass since we know it can have more problems than the sleeve. I just wish I’d known the sleeve isn’t ok for people with my history. Wish i’d have picked a doctor that did both surgeries to get better guidence since i was a cash patient.

Looks like your doing great. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
