Red face Happy Thanksgiving to y'all

This is my first entire year out from surgery, so I've got my "holiday" eating plan in mind already.

Honestly, I've not been hungry even once since surgery.

I am the primary "holiday" cook (we have 6 grown kids who pitch in). I've made a few adjustments to recipes where I could to make them healthier for everyone without losing tradition or flavor (I hope).

But my plan is to just "taste" some of everything I want to, and remember that the food will still be there later.

    Anyone with tips?

Our menu is apricot glazed turkey, cornbread/sausage/mushroom stuffing, mac & cheese (Southern), mashed potatoes, green bean casserole (ew) Brie cranberry bake, apple pie, pumpkin pie and coffee. Sounds like a carb overdose!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I have done ZERO research on this yet, other than some very brief reading. Apparentely there are Califlour Stuffing recipes out there.

Quick google turned up this one:
    https://www.delish.com/cooking/recip...uffing-recipe/

I'm going to experiment with a couple different recipes this weekend. Assuming something works, I'll make it again Thursday.
We're also going to whole foods this weekend (I hope). If so, maybe I'll find a pre-made low-carb stuffing to try.

We either go to my wife's parents or I go to my family out of town. This year is wife's parents. In years past, I believe my mother-in-law knows not to do anything special for me this year (example - i love jellied cranberry sauce - but this year, I don't want any).
I just plan to stick to the low carb foods (like turkey). I'm sure I'll have a tiny bit of potatoes, and I will try some dessert, but just a taste.

My plan in years past - enjoy the day and try to get back on track the day after.

My plan this year - enjoy the day, but stay on track! Like you said, the food will still be there later.

Happy thanks giving. This will be my first ever thanks giving. I have now been in America for almost 2 weeks. I have been on lots of hikes and done quite a bit of walking, however I am missing the gym. I joined a gym today and will go everyday until I leave. Food wise,I have been ok,but I think I am not eating enough and drinking enough. I am also disappointed that my weight has stayed the same. I suppose as long as I don't gain anything. On Thanksgiving I will probably have fish and salad. I hope everyone in America has a good time on the thanks giving holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

I am on day 16, I am following direction but do not have much of sign when to stop. I am real upset about that. I was hoping that the sleeve will do something so I know us enough.

So I will need to be carefull.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too sweety!
We don't have that in Europe, although I think we should be more aware of being grateful for the blessings we have.

I am actually not sure that you need tips.
    You are doing great already!
And you can't eat much of anything anyway.
So, enjoy the day and your company and just take a couple of bites from all the yummie food you so lovingly prepared.
You deserve that too... same as your family.
    Just my 2 cents.
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

That goes for everybody here on this board!

This is my first Thanksgiving since surgery. I've thought it through, because I'm a bit apprehensive. It's hard knowing how much I have enjoyed filling my plate up in the past. My plan is to start with turkey & gravy. Have a small amount of the sides I really like...stuffing, sweet potatoes. I am not really a big dessert person, so that helps me out. I just love my savory food!

I am particularly thankful for my renewed health and well-being this year.

Happy Thanksgiving Annie and all. Thank you to the bunches of you on here who are so encouraging and supportive on this journey. Be Blessed!!

my wife is a bit weird. This time of year, she loves turkey. one a week it seems. We had turkey tonight. I had a little turkey, probably a tablespoon (two tops) of mashed potatoes, a little gravy and a side of sauteed veggies. I was very satisfied. Not stuffed, but content.

So my plan for thursday is just more of the same, but probably with a small bite or two of dessert.

So this is actually my THIRD surgery post op. I was sleeved Nov 3, 2016 and had my first Thanksgiving just a few weeks later. I did take a few bites even then and had to play off and distract as besides my hubby and kids, no one else there knew I had been sleeved. They just knew about my hernia repair and ulcer removal. You see I had an ulcer and that part of my stomach was removed so....white lie. So I ate a few bites, my hubby ate off my plate, my kids as well, and no one was none the wiser. Year two. I put a little of everything on my plate. Hubby still swooped in for the assist. Did a lot of talking and walking around. No one noticed. This year I can eat a bit more as I am 2+ years out but still will do the same. A few bites of all and I know my full signal so I am not worried. Today we went out to eat and it was sooooo very good but I knew exactly when to stop. I had 2 small fried green tomatoes, 2-3 bites of black eyed peas, 2 ounces of blackened catfish, and a small piece of cornbread. I know for some of you that sounds like a lot but really it isn't. LOL. I could not even try the mac and cheese as I was already at my full. I also would have loved more of the catfish but knew if I ate more I would regret it. You learn. Once in a blue moon I might go past it and trust me when I tell you my body will still revolt. Toad froth or some little pukey thing. I do think it is ok to have a bite of everything as long as you do not go past your full. You will not eat enough to do any damage. So my philosophy is enjoy. It is not like you eat like that every day.

    Christy,
How does your sign feel? How do you know that you have to stop.
I am 17 days post surgery and still trying to figure my sign.
I get a little disconfort on left side but if I wait long it goes away and then I can eat a little more.
What does everyone else feel that you know you have to stop?

My sign is a sometimes little burp, but mostly I feel a bit of pressure in my stomach area.
But it can be a lot of things: burping, sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose.
Your discomfort could very well be your sign to stop, good for you for noticing that already.
Just pay close attention, you will learn what is yours.
And once you recognize that, don't take one bite more.
Even when that is only the last bite on your plate.
    Just leave it there.

We are all able to eat again after a while, but than we would be eating all day long.
And that is exactly what we are not supposed to do.
According to your doctors instructions you need to eat (eventually) 3 meals and maybe 2 or 3 healthy snacks.
You will do that in time, but with 17 days out, you are still in the learning phase.
For now, get your protein in and your fluids and get used to your new stomach.
What worked for me was eating at odd hours and drinking at even hours.
    Good luck!
    Isn't this fun?

My surgery was November 4th 4 years ago. This will be my 5th Thanksgiving, and it is probably the one day of the year that I wish I could have my stomach back. I absolutely love Thanksgiving foods! While the few bites I'm able to take leave me with a full tummy, they aren't enough to satisfy my want for the yummy stuff. My mama's cornbread dressing, my cornbread salad... oh gosh I can't wait until Thursday! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

    You look great Katrina!

I am still trying to find out that sign that will tell me " is enough ".

Had 2 bites of salmon last night and a burp and found I could eat another 2 more, I was paying attention and see which one is my point but it never came so I stopped in case.
Guess I have to find it, I am at 17 days and learning.
