    Default Hello!

    Hey to Everyone,

Scheduled for my Sleeve on the 13th of December, looking forward to it, but scared as hell, as like most of us, I have a eating addiction. I believe I am going to go to some counseling to find coping mechanisms to deal with my need to over eat. My fear is stretching out my stomach and putting the weight back on! Let me hear some success stories!

Just start reading some blogs on here. There are tons of success stories. The biggest part of being successful is to be honest with yourself at all times. Once you lose the weight weigh yourself regularly and have a plan to do something as soon as you gain 5 lbs. Don't wait until it is 20, 30 , 60, or more.

Libby, read the annual surgiversaries posted below in my signature block.

Over four years post-op, and I'm still down the 100 pounds I lost.

BTW, I started seeing a therapist a few months pre-op and still see the same therapist once a month. It's an incredibly valuable resource for me. In my case, I overate pre-op due to stress and was one of millions of Americans who think that food (especially food of the un-nutritious kinds) makes us feel better. I've worked very hard on not self-medicating with food, and it has really paid off for me.

Very best wishes to you. And welcome.

Libby, welcome! Ann2 is spot on with the therapy advice; I also find journalling to be incredibly helpful. Sometimes it helps me know if I'm hungry, thirsty, bored, anxious, or just "fidget" hungry. I haven't been hungry since my surgery a year ago October.

I've had lots of helpful counseling over the years, and worked through a lot of my eating issues. So glad you're here.

Tons of success stories here! I had surgery 5 years ago and have spent over 4 years as a healthy, regular-sized person. It is priceless. I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined not being fat.

Once you are regular sized your healthy eating has become a habit. Not to mention you don't ever want to go back, it's just too much fun. I can't overeat after all these years. Amazing tool!

As above there are a lot of great successful people here.
I found that my eating habits changed dramatically after surgery and foods that I used to love I really don't fancy anymore.
A therapist is a great idea if you think that you might struggle. Every little bit of support helps.

I'm 14 months out and down 61 kilograms.....and I love my new life!

I've just passed 6 mos post op, so still new to this lifestyle....but very pleased with my decision and progress thus far. As others have mentioned, therapy helps. Having the realization of the issue is a big step in the right direction, you sound self-aware. I find it helps me not to think of this as a diet, but truly as a lifestyle change. I've failed LOTS of diets before, but this is for keeps. You'll find the successes along the way motivating, both changes on the scale and those "non-scale victories". Don't forget to take measurements and plenty of pictures so you can document your changes. The brain is a curious thing and you may not see those changes right away. Do your best to follow the guidelines of your surgeon for what/when to eat and working out, etc. It really is there to help you succeed.
Wish you all the best as you move forward on your journey!
