Default Insurance Denial-Anyone WITH Bariatric coverage over 40 BMI & still get denied?

I’m at a crossroads. I am currently at 39BMI. My insurance covers Bariatric surgery with 35 BMI+1 comirbidity OR 40+BMI. I’m fortunate that I have no comorbidities other than “positional sleep apnea” which only requires a positional pillow (no Capp needed yet). I am also required to do 6 mo with nutritionist and psych evaluation. I would need to GAIN 6lbs (or perhaps just get by with wearing heavy clothes to my appt) to proceed. I’m concerned that even after 6 months of jumping through hoops I’ll still get denied for some reason or other.
I’ve researched Mexico but my husband immediately said no. I’m not the kind of girl who likes being told what to do but I love my husband and I destabd his reservations.
Another option I found is Blossom Bariatric in Vegas which offers and outpatient sleeve procedure which would self-pay. It would put a financial burden on us for about a year which is how long it would take to pay it off.
I’m just so overwhelmed and would love to hear about your experience with insurance companies.

I had to gain a little weight because my insurance required 2 comorbidities if you were under 40 BMI. I only had one. I gained enough to get through the 6 months of supervised weight loss. My insurance had a stipulation that I could not gain any weight and I could not get under the 40 BMI for approval. So I did it and was approved.

Maybe some weights in your pockets? Anything to get coverage. Good luck!

Drink as much water as you can, that's heavy! And with winter clothes, like jeans and a heavy sweater you should be fine.

    Pre_surgery I could've gained 6lbs in a week!
My ob/gyn's office always takes off 2lbs to allow for clothing which I always appreciated, but make sure your doc doesn't do the same!

Like Sraebaer said, drink lots of water, but doing that the day before and also eating salty food, the result should be fast!

I know one day under my cortisone medication makes me gain 3 pounds per day! usually my treatment is 3 days of high dosage, yet it's 9 pounds that will stick if I'm not carefull. And I have to do a strict no salt during those 3 days! or I can gain more...salt is very a culprit!

My process was also long, but worth it. Going with the insurance, you will get post-ops and those are important. Stats show that most people who are successful attend post-ops (or get their usual doc to do the follow ups)...that does keep you on your toes!
    Good luck!

You can also practice not standing up straight.
Knees slightly bend, and a hollow back makes you loose maybe half an inch.
But you have to practice that at home, so you know exactly how to not stand tall...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.
