    Default Sicily!

Just got home from 2 weeks in Sicily and am afraid to stand on the scale. Yes it was a hiking trip, but the food, OMG! Very little protein (except stuff like octopus and some other gross stuff I would not eat) and pasta, bread, and wine at EVERY lunch and dinner. We couldn't order off the menu, just got served as a group. I never even saw a banana. Even cakes at breakfast. (I didn't eat that). If any of you are Italian out there I don't now how you do it.

Beautiful trip though! I will get back to my routine and weigh myself in a few days. One photo I'm at a tomb from 400 BC, another at Mt. Etna with steam coming out to the top (still active), and another sweaty on a Medeterrian shoreline hike.

sraebaer, I am pleased you had a great trip. i am sure you haven't put on weight or if you have very little as you were very active. That is always a worry when we go abroad. I am off to America for a month and hoping not to gain anything.

That sucks that you had to eat what was on the group menu. Italians do have lots of lovely meat and cheese plates tat would have totally sleeve friendly. That being said, when I went home (Northern Italy) for 3 weeks last summer I ate everything. LOL. But I did a lot of walking so I had only gained 2 lbs and actually lost it as soon as I got home within just a couple of days. I think part of my weight gain was constipation, though. That was at a time that I had it really bad. I am glad you had a good time!! I miss home so bad.

    Gorgeous photos!!!

Sorry you didn't get to eat beautiful Italian food...unfortunately that's the same in all countries : when it's the "group menu" it's loaded with carbs and sometimes you eat only "international food" (French fries with that fried food??) which is not even what they serve in the country...had the same issue a few years back in a Turkish "all included" beach resort...we had to go to the fisherman village to be able to eat fresh fish, they would only served meat (obviously defrosted) .... with fries...so sad.

I had friends visiting France from Taiwan a few weeks ago, since they were part of a sport team, and rented a huge house, I decided to cook for them for a few days, so they could have a taste of "real French food".
The venue where they trained did offer lunches, it was pretty bad quality. The team (20 people!!) did like the dinners I made, loaded with salad, veggies, but also typical cheeses and meat plates, and lovely desserts. They loved the real "French baguette"! They did eat lots of carbs (needed for training but also it's cultural) but at least they had the real thing...the other team was not that lucky..it is complicated during a trip to have the real local food. Unless a local will cook it for you.

Don't worry, you can find fabulous Italian food in the US. But those hikes will be a forever memory, and that you couldn't find it anywhere else!
Thank you for sharing the photos!

I've never been to Sicily, but it looks beautiful on your pics.
Don't worry about your weight, you will have lost some regain in no time.
I am glad you had such a nice time and you were very active judging by your photos.
Did you weigh yourself already since you came home?

We will be travelling through Italy early next year, when we come back from Morocco.
The plan for now is to visit Venice for a couple of days, somewhere in March.
Sure hope it is not flooded...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

sraebaer ... it's not the holidays that can hurt us long-term ... it's what we do when we come home that matters. I've been taking long, luxe vacations post-op and come home 3-4 pounds heavier, then get right back on the horse, and it's all gone in 2 weeks.

Congratulations on having such a great vacation!

You're right. I feel so much better back to my eating routine! I did gain about 3 pounds but will get them off quickly.

You'll love it! And it you're cheap like us, those tiny coach seats for a 10 hour flight aren't quite as bad when you are a regular-sized person!!
