Default Rules That I can Live With....Maintenance

    So what are yours?
Here are my rules, which for now, are working as I figure out maintenance

    1. FIRST UP: protein and water; goal is 90 g protein daily
    2. Deprioritize carbs, especially the refined and processed ones(rice, noodles, bread, etc.) and yes, my beloved air popped popcorn falls in this rule
    3. Make the most of healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, butter sparingly)
    4. Eat five small meals a day -- my blood sugar drops if I go to 3 meals and my RD has said this is fine.
    5. Avoid liquid calories (protein shake for breakfast in my decaf coffee is the exception, since otherwise its hard to meet protein goal)
    6. Don't drink with meals or for 30 minutes after eating. This one seems very difficult, but prevents "toad froth"
    7. ALWAYS Weigh portions and track/log what you consume. If you eat something "off", still be honest with yourself and log it in.
    8. Eat mindfully and slowly -- to slow down, do what you have to do. Conversation; getting up for a minute. Setting your utensil down between bites.
    10. Try to eat at a table and not perch on a chair watching Netflix (guilty)
    11. Move as much as possible
12 Weigh yourself daily but don't be crazy about the day to day fluctuations
    13. Be kind to yourself! Do one self-compassion/self-care thing daily
    14. Take your vitamins every day and I add biotin which is bringing back the hair lost
    15. Track your own lab results - you're your own best advocate; include your PCP if your bariatric is doing the labs.
    16. Get a yearly DEXA scan to be sure your bones are healthy -- I have osteo and do a Reclast IV every other year to maintain the level I'm at

Obviously some of these rules are for those of us who are "older"...
    [I]HW: 240 lbs SW: 199 lbs GW: 140 lbs

    1 MO = 167.0 2 MO = 156.4 3 MO = 148.4 4 MO = 140.6
    5 M) = 136.0 6 MO = 130.0
    1 YR = 122.0 2 YR = 140.00 2.5 YR = 139
Happy with my weight; happy with my size; over-the-moon with my health!

I do pretty much the same (very similar anyway, with the exception of 3 meals a day).

Regarding the DEXA scan, I'll ask my doc about that. But I'm actually a guinea pig for that as well, at least for the first 6 months. I work at the hospital I had the surgery done, and a research doc called my doc and got my name and contacted me for a bone scan study. I had a scan pre-op, at 10% weight loss and i'll have my 3rd and final scan at 6 months post-op (in February).

The study is to see what changes rapid weight loss has in bone-density.

I'll try to share the results in feb/mar 2019.

Thanks Annie, your advice is always and welcome and informative. I have to admit I am scale crazy and weigh myself far too often, sometimes i can weigh myself 6 times a day.

Funny how different we can be while still being successful. I only follow one of your rules - weigh almost daily. This just goes to show that we all have to find our own way of making it work for us. Keep rocking your success, Annie!

I take my vitamins, get my protein in and fluids and eat pretty healthily and weigh daily. I also exercise every day. I don't log anything as I don't want to feel like I'm on a diet (this is just me though and who knows, one day I might!)
I do often sip drinks with meals... I'm probably a bad person!!!
Self care... yay Im all about it!
Blood work every 3 months and that goes straight through to my doc ;-)
Nice list Annie. I love your whole face xxx

I have never weighed portions or tracked what I ate, I was always told to eat until satisfied.

I do need to eat slower, I am really bad at that.

Besides that, I'm pretty much on track with you. But we all "tweak" the program a little differently to find what works for us.

My rules are kind of lax. I am an intuitive eater and try to listen to my body. I have been in maintenance for over a year. No issues. I workout daily. I weigh daily. My focus is protein and fluids but I do have carbs. I do not drink my calories either unless it is a protein shake or my morning coffee made with espresso, fairlife skim milk, Splenda, and a scoop of collagen powder. My biggest hurdle is to avoid drinking and eating at the same time. I am not always successful with that.

Pretty much as what I do, and I am 3/12 off being sleeved for 4 years.

    I eat 3 meals/day, and don't snack.
And I weigh myself only x1/week - if that.

    I am oesteopaenic.

I would love being relaxed and intuitive! At 66, I'm very OCD, and its a way to reduce anxiety about life. I kinda doubt I'll make a big change, but maybe as I have more time out from the surgery.

Intuitive is knowing that cookies in a bag are a "single serving", lol.
