The first few days are really hard...just do the best you can. Forget protein and work on the water. As the swelling goes down it will get easier. There are some super high protein drinks that I still use daily. Just two premiere brand will give you 60 grams of protein.

I flavor the water which helps me get it all down, I use the Hawaiian Punch powder, it has zero calories. There are dozens of others.

Hi. You really just have to make it your job to get in the water initially and then the protein as you can.
Lots and lots of sipping. Some people find room temperature or warm liquids easier than cold. Perhaps you could sucking try ice chips/cubes popsicles?
I'm not familiar with the American products but there will be lots of suggestions coming I'm sure.

I also found flavoring the water helped early on. I used Mio drops ... there are many flavors. You might try those out before surgery to see what you favor. And there's always the chance that your taste buds will change (temporarily) after surgery, too.

For me, the "trick" that helped most was just to belly up and sip, sip, sip. It was shocking the first few weeks after surgery how little I could swallow / hold at a time. That doesn't last long. But early on you must just make it your primary job to sip-sip-sip throughout the day. Once again, that phase doesn't last long. By the end of the first month you'll realize you can actually *drink* again. And in a few months after that you'll be drinking almost as much as you can now pre-op.

And a few months after that (when you're getting seriously into exercise and really wanting to drink a lot you'll be able to do that, too.

Most of the early post-op stuff is extremely temporary. Don't freak out over the changes you're experiencing during those times. NONE of it is permanent.

    You'll do fine, Rex.

Temperature played a big part for me. I had a hard time drinking cold fluids but did a lot better with warm or room temperature fluids. I did not like the sweetness of the shakes a for a bit post op (even though I had liked them pre op). What helped me was Fairlife milk, espresso, and Splenda. (Fairlife milk is higher in protein.) Or creamed soups made with the milk. I had to keep working on it to make sure I hit both of my goals. Eventually it does get easier. Just continue to do your best and don't get dehydrated. I also did a lot of hot berry flavored green tea. (That whole temperature thing again.)

I used crystal light or the store brand to flavor my water. The protein was a little bit harder, but it became easier as each day passed.

I also had a temperature thing going on and drank heaps of warm herbal tea and still do! You just have to keep sipping. protein was harder and I made a big fuss about it!!! Find one you like... it was an ordeal! But you will be fine!
