    Default Preparing food for family

    Hi!

A question and looking for advice.
I will be having surgery in the next few months and am worried about having to prepare food for my husband. Him and I do not eat the same type if foods at all and I don't work and prepare his dinners and lunches for work. My husband works a minimum of 12 hours a day and it's the least I can do to take care of him. I will have help for about 2 weeks, but how has this been handled for those of you in the same situation or taking care of kids or family?

    Thank you for your help!

Make the healthiest foods he likes. You will not be able to eat much. You won't really want most things either. As long as you are eating good solid proteins and veggies you will be fine. Just avoid fried foods. And junk foods.

There is many meals you can adapt for the family. For the first weeks I organized my fridge and freezer with meals ready for almost two weeks in the freezer, and plenty of salads and fruits ready to eat in the fridge. For example stews were easy to prepare in advance, and I could use the broth for my first weeks too. Quiches, soups, lasagnas do freeze well. The goal is to eat healthy you will be able to manage, no worries, plenty of options available, just look online for inspiration. Good luck!

You'll find that 1) you are not hungry and 2) your palate has changed. If you eat as he does, you will not feel well, you will not lose weight, and you may throw up. I just alter my husbands stuff to be a bit healthier, and I often grab a yogurt or cheese, or cottage cheese, oro protein drink and keep him company as he eats. He is not the one with the weight issues. that would be me. And we were self pay, and I can't let the expense be wasted!

My wife has lost 30 pounds eating my stuff when we cook at home. Sometimes she will have a starch I won't touch. Eating out we will sometimes split something where we both eat the protein and veggies and she gets the starch side.

You are going to find you are a lot less tempted than you are now. It's also a good idea to have a conversation with him about him supporting you by trying the things you need to eat on your diet. His reward is eating better himself and having a healthier more energetic spouse.

My kids are still young enough where they get their own kid food but I've been working on them eating the same stuff as me since it's healthier. We do lots of sheet baked chicken and vegetables.
