    Default Greetings!

I am three days away from surgery and am anxious, nervous, worried, second guessing myself and excited all at the same time. I've been overweight most of my adult life and would yo-yo diet and the weight would come back with a vengeance and an extra 15 lbs every time. This time was the final straw, this is the heaviest I've weighed in at 5'02 and 237 lbs (I always hear the sounds of a boxing bell when I say that). I would always jokingly say there was just more of me to love. I was told once by a friend when I lost 30 lbs the last time how beautiful and confident I was but when I gained 50 lbs back I was still beautiful but he missed that confident woman. Where did she go, he asked? I cried on the inside.
I was hiding. Hiding behind my moonlighting job as a private chef and baker. Hiding behind food and fancy dinners at home where I was in the spotlight because of my culinary skills and not because of my weight. Hiding at home.
Despite all the nervous nelly feelings, I can't wait to find her again. That confident woman. I do stress about the big things and the little things will all hopefully fall away. I have an appointment with a therapist in a couple weeks to help with my emotional eating and I am a foodie and am curious how those are going change. Look forward to trying to new recipes.

Thank you for letting me share my journey and Bon Chance!

    Thanks,

    K

Good luck with your surgery. Mine is not scheduled until Feb 2019. I am sure I will be anxious, nervous, worried and second guessing myself at that time. Keep us updated on your progress. You CAN DO IT!!

HI Kam, i am now 6 months out and its the best decision I have ever made. I too was nervous, anxious and also had doubts about the surgery. In fact when I lost 7 kg (15.4lbs) in the 2 weeks prior to surgery I thought well i have managed this so far why not just continue but I knew it would not last as I had done it before. I kept thinking about all the bad things that could happen, my surgeon and y husband( also a surgeon) reassured me that for my health, both ental and physical it was for the best and would definitely improve my life. I had no co-morbidities so from that point of view I was fine, but it was not a matter of if but when I would develop them, especially if my weight kept creeping up. I also hated going out and would always be a big thing if I had somewhere to go and I had to dress up, I hated myself and hated that people would see me looking so big and awful, now I love to go out and love how I look ( not the turkey neck and saggy boobs) but I am much happier and fitter than I have been for a very long time and I would not want to go back at all. So go for it and remember why you have chosen this path. Good luck.

You'll do great! It is so much fun to very quickly become a smaller, healthier you.

Being a great cook is a definite advantage, you won't get bored eating the same thing over and over. My husband is a great cook, and we always follow my "rule of two" (that I made up) for dinner, a protein and veggie. He also loves to shop, so just finds what looks good for dinner and YUM! The varieties are endless.

Your story will sound familiar to a lot of us here. Years of being overweight, yo-yo dieting, gaining any weight lost plus more.......
    I love my life now.
    You will be just fine.

Welcome Kam. Being nervous is normal. Just keep focused on why you are doing this. It is going to be an amazing ride.

Congrats on your decision, you will do fine! I lolled at the boxing ring reference! Also in terms of being a great chef... so am I... and it has been wonderful to carry on cooking for everyone and making amazing delicious tiny meals! I never did the thing that some people do of retreating around eating, I just carried on making amazing food. We tended to eat very healthy food anyway... I just ate too much of it. My family really appreciated that I carried on embracing the foodie thang. I think you can do the same :-)

Kam, wonderful decision, the sleeve and the therapy. I am a cook (not professional) but having fed 8 people 3 meals a day for what seems like forever, I do love cooking.

I've adapted a lot of my favorite recipes to sleeve-friendly and/or healthier. PM me and I'd be glad to send you some recipes via regular email, if you like. I particularly do Cajun, Southern, Mediterranean, Polish and just about anything I've ever cooked. Its' been fun!
