Smile Taking a chance on changing my life

I have been overweight or heavy set my whole life. I always hide my insecurities behind jokes and smiles and pretend to not be bothered. I become the helper and the super friendly person because I always felt I had to over compensate for not being a healthy weight. I work a stressful job and have a nice husband and two kids and everything seems great. Dee down I just am not not comfortable in my own skin and avoid social situations and any activity where I will be embarrassed because I’m over weight. I made a decision to have WLS and my hubby is not 100% for it because he loves me. But he also knows how I am not living life fully because of my insecurities. I want to enjoy life and be hable to do things without feeling self conscious about my weight. I want feel sexy and pretty and just feel healthy and not weighed down. I have done every diet under the sun and I feel that I need this tool to help me finally lose the weight I need to and change my life. I’m having surgery in Mexico 🇲🇽! December 4, 2018 and I am nervous and scared and happy and scared and unsure but I feel too like there is hope finally to let the real me out from behind the fat that keeps me from doing everything I want to do in my life. I hope to make friends to travel through this journey who understand what I have been going through and won’t judge my decision to make my life better.

    Hi MerritGirl
Your story is very similar to a lot of us on this forum.
Most of us have struggled with weight loss most of our lives. We have tried all sorts of diets that worked for a while but we then gained the weight back and sometimes more. Most of us have all felt like you feel.

My partner has always loved and supported me whatever weight I am. He was cautious about the sleeve surgery only because it is surgery that involves a general anesthetic and there are risks with all surgeries. My partner came with me to my initial consultation (and subsequent ones) so that he too could understand what was involved and could ask any questions that he had. He realised that this was something that I had thought about a great deal and wanted. He wanted me to be happy and healthy so that we could enjoy a long life together.

You are right when you say the surgery is a tool because yes, you do have to work at it. But it's not hard work and the results are stunning.

This surgery has changed my life completely. I am half the size I was a year ago. I have more energy that I ever remember having in my adult life previously (I'm 56). I can walk for miles, keep up with my 7 year old grandson and am happy! Taking control of my eating is wonderful. I focus on putting good food into my body and no longer crave "junk food". Shopping for clothes is just fabulous! Life is exciting.

This forum is a great place to come to for support and advice. Please ask any questions that you or your hubby might have.

I wish you well on our journey.

    Hi

You know it really is something that will change your life.

What can I tell you, well... if you follow all the advice that your team gives you.

You can establish new routines like never before.

The first couple of months are about letting your tummy heal and following the surgeons advice to heal your tummy and stay well with your nutrition whilst your body heals. By making those choices its like magic the weight falls off without the focus of the usual rules.

liquids heal your tummy and good protein and vitamins and your supplements will steer you forwards.

Always look at your sleeve and ask what it needs when it comes to making the best nutritional choices to be well.

You can eat delicious foods not junk! but tasty food once you have healed your tummy.
You will enjoy food in an entirely different way.

Look forward to it, You are not giving up anything just gaining the very best health you could give to yourself if you put a creative touch into your meal planning.

If you want to know more ask these fantastic people how they cook and what they eat.

Welcome to a wonderful tool on your journey to health and fun! You will have energy (after the first 6 weeks) that amazes you; You will feel more comfortable in your life than before, but I would also suggest you consider counseling, a local support group or journaling to help you with the emotional side of eating.

The sleeve is a tool, and it works wonderfully. It works best when you get support and counsel from those who've already done it so you're in a great place.
Looking forward to your new you in the New year!

Thanks!! I plan on it...I want to be more active and be able to do things I have been insecure or physically not able to because of my weight. I want to paddle board and go kayaking and go for long walks without having my knees kill me!
