    Lightbulb 8 Days until surgery

I joined this forum to help alleviate my anxiety and find help within the bariatric community. I have my VSG on the 18th. I am currently on day three of a 900 calorie a day diet that I will be on until my surgery. Anyone have any tips for after surgery?? Things I should have at home etc?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi There.

This is an exciting time for you.

Most importantly your surgeons instructions. They all differ.

Straight after surgery you will need to make it your job to keep hydrated. Sipping water all the time - really all the time.
Walk when you can, sip water, rest, sip water, nap, sip water..........yep, all the time!

Don't buy too much of anything - protein drinks/shakes etc. My tastes changed a little after surgery. Also I bought a bulk lot of multivitamins and could stomach them. They are still sitting in my pantry! I found another brand that I could tolerate.

The first week you will be tired and trying to adjust to your new life. Be kind to yourself and remember that every day is a step towards the new you.

Others will be along with more suggestions soon I'm sure.

Best wishes for the 18th :-)

Thank you so much! I hadn't thought about that yet. I think I am going to get the multivitamin patches so I don't have to worry about tasting/swallowing after surgery. I made some bone broth from chicken and beef and have it frozen plus I have the powdered form of bullion. So far my pre-op diet I am eating about 500-900 calories a day. Right now I am just tired but I am nearly halfway to my surgery!!! One week from today! Thanks for the support I appreciate it more than I could ever describe.

Welcome Ashley. The first week you won't want much. I particularly couldn't stand the sweetness of my protein shakes and had to have creamed soups made with skim milk to get some nutrition in. That lasted for a while. I also used a heating pad because my back was achy after surgery.
