    Default 2nd week post op

I am having problems with just the full liquid diet in my second week after surgery. I'm not hungry but I'm tired of protein shakes and broth any suggestions on how to deal with this.

I can't really offer suggestions for you on alternatives as I'm not sure what is available in the US and I was not on a full liquid diet after my surgery - every surgeon seems to have a different plan.
I'm sure someone will be along to offer some suggestions for you soon.
Just remember that whatever you are doing now is not forever and will be worth it in the end :-)

Full liquids per my plan included: Water, sugar-free Popsicles, sugar-free Jello, diet Snapple, MiO, Crystal Light, Vitamin Water Zero, Propel Zero, Gatorade G2, broths + protein drinks. If using protein powder, there's a note that they can be mixed with water, skim or 1% milk or unsweetened nondairy beverage; I think that means like soy or almond milk? I like to use water enhancers that have Stevia (plant based sweetener) and really like the True Lime/Lemon line. They have lots of flavors online but I also get them at my local WalMart (much cheaper there).

With broth, I added seasonings to mine to mix up the flavors..to chicken I added a bit of garlic powder and a drop of soy sauce, to beef I added a splash of Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce. Be careful if spices are not your thing, but these were things I regularly cook with and I tolerated them very well.

Do you move to pureed foods on week 3?

The only way I survived the full liquid first 2 weeks was by making creamed soups with milk instead of water. If you use the Fairlife milk it has extra protein. I can tell you that initially I couldn't stand the sweet taste of protein shakes immediately post op. If it wasn't for the creamed soups I'm not sure I would have eaten.

I really liked having clear protein drinks as I got tired of the shakes. I found my favorite which is Premier Protein Clear tropical punch. I also went to The Vitamin Store and tried a bunch of different brands of clear protein drinks for variety. Before surgery I bought lots of sugar free jello and pudding cups which I never actually tried but I was allowed to have them if I wanted. Hang in there.

Find a protein shake you like. I always liked the ones more like liquid than shake, like Isopure diluted with a lot of ice. Their flavors were a little odd; I could tolerate orange. Go to GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe and buy singles until you find something you like, then get a case.

If you don't like any, you will just have to suck it up and drink them, because without protein your body won't heal. It isn't a big deal, you can probably start soft food at week three. Be sure to meet your liquid and protein goal every day.

    Thanks MsLisa71

Yes I do move to pureed foods in my 3rd week. Thanks for the advice. This has been the hardest 2 weeks of the program so far for me.

    Kiwi Gal,

Thank you for the last line . I keep telling myself this is only temporary and I can overcome this hurdle.

I have been eating a lot of sf jello and sf popcicles. Hardest part of the program for me. Thank you

I just have a few more days to push through this. Yes I am getting my required protein and liquids in. Thanks for the help!
