One reason I chose VSG was because of removing most of the hunger hormone. I’m so disappointed to find I’m frequently hungry. Why?
Hi
Ok, they did surgery on your tummy, not your head, so... Its probably head hunger.
When you are a little further down the line, say a months time, I doubt you will feel hungry at all.
By then you will be having solid food and experimenting and finding what you can eat and what is comfortable.
Sometimes its habit or thirst it takes a while for our mindset to change.
If you still feel that way when you are on solids, ask your team why.
All the Best to you.
It could be acid reflux or just the acids in your newly shaped tummy. Give it time, distract the hunger if you know you've already had your planned meals, and find alternative methods to deal with the "head hunger." It's a challenge, but more and more I'm finding that if we don't get ourselves straight from the beginning in an emotional and behavioral way, success may be "fleeting." The "head part" is the hardest but yet most important tool to add to the toolbox for long-term success and that's what we all hoped for when making the brave choice to have bariatric surgery.
You can do it, be gentle with yourself and give it time but figure it out while you're moving forward. Continued success!
I was constantly hungry in the first few months. I had to take a Prilosec for the stomach acid because it does mimic hunger pangs. I also ate so little that I had to have a bite of something every hour. Just a small bite. So a small piece of beef jerky or a bite of low carb/high protein bar. It was helpful. Eventually as I could eat a little more then I did not have to have a bite every hour.
Gigi, how many grams of protein are you currently eating?
FYI, at this phase you should be getting at least 60 grams every day.
You need that much protein to repair your body post-op and to fuel your health. It will also assuage your hunger.

I try to pause and ask "am I hungry" OR "am I tired" OR "am I thirsty" OR am I bored???
And Ann2 is spot on - protein protein protein
I was never hungry at first, I don't think my hunger returned until months after surgery. Could be acid reflux, could be you are not drinking enough or getting in enough protein, or could be your brain playing tricks on you. I would start by keeping a journal with your fluid and protein goals recorded for every day. And if you're hungry, another protein shake wouldn't hurt. Good luck! It will get easier when you start real food.
I am much more hungry during the day than at night. I just try to drink when i'm hungry and try to have small healthy snacks. Or go for a walk to try to forget about it.
My hunger hasn't gone away. But the amount of food required to quelch that hunger is significantly less now. A cup of coffee helps for awhile. A low fat cheese stick or a small serving of nuts can keep me satisfied for a couple hours too.
I've seen a few folks (that I work with) that eat crap food when they get hungry. They aren't active on forums and IMO aren't taking this tool seriously enough. But if you feed your hunger healthy food/good protein, that, again IMO, is good. Like has been said before, don't graze, but find a healthy snack if you really are sure you're hungry.
