    Default Proteins

    Hi!

A question about protein. I would like to know from the long time sleevers how long do you use protein powder?
It seems really hard to choose and I have purchased quit a few different ones and I'm more confused than ever.
I've bought flavored ones and non flavored and also clear protein drinks. I'm just wondering if you eventually drop the shakes?

    Thanks all!

I still sometimes have one for breakfast but not so often these days, I'm 11 months out nearly. I regularly had them daily for about 8 months and then slacked off as I get enough protein now anyway :-)

I will be 2 years out in November. I mostly get my protein from food but I do have at least 1 protein shake a day. I do it mostly because I strength train and I need to ensure I get enough protein in.

I'm just over a year out and still have a protein shake for breakfast most week days. I have breakfast at work and it is just really convenient.
Otherwise I have eggs or oatmeal (with a 1/2 scoop protein powder mixed in) for breakfast. I get the rest of my protein through the food that I eat now. I keep track of my daily intake and if it's looking a little light (very rarely) I top up with a half protein shake.
The protein powders definitely vary in taste and I tried a few before I settled on the one that I use now.

Thank you all for your input! I'm sorry I'm not sure how to like a lost or comment to each individual. For me, it seems hard to navigate this site.
I do not like artificial sweeteners and worry about long time protein shakes sur to not liking the sucralose. Do you think doing unflavored protein with a little bit of fruit is acceptable, after the initial stages? I do not like sweet drinks and the proteins I have tried all are very sweet with artificial flavors. Thank you all so much for your input! I can't wait till I get this surgery. 46 days till my time period is complete and ge will schedule the procedure.

I still mix a protein shake every day with my daily coffee.
I don't eat meat, so I have to monitor my protein intake closely.
    The shake helps.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I'm four years and two months post-op. Like the others, most of my protein comes from real food -- the kind you have to chew. BTW, I still aim for 100 grams of protein daily.

However, I'm addicted to the GNC Lean Shake 25 (swiss chocolate). I buy the pre-made shakes, not the powder. It's 25 grams of protein and only 170 calories. I have one almost every morning for breakfast when I'm not traveling.

FYI, my other protein comes from both animal and plant sources, e.g., dairy, fowl, fish, meat, beans, other legumes, whole grains, and a whole lot of veggies and fruits (some of which also have a little protein). BTW, I'm a big proponent of eating a wide variety of clean foods. Nothing is off my menu, not even treats, although those are a VERY SMALL proportion of my daily foods.

Oh ... I just love food and eating.

I just posed the question at my one year appointment and was assured it's perfectly fine to continue a protein shake to be sure you get your daily protein.
I like mine mixed with coffee. I use the Premier because its 30 grams of protein, which is about 1/3 of my daily goal.

Other sources for me -- deli turkey, deli ham (no honey types), roast beef, very lean hamburger, low fat cheese, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs (sometimes an iffy choice) and combining protein (i.e., beans & cheese, corn tortilla and beans)....
