I have been overweight for my entire life. My high weight was back in 2001. I was at 388 pounds. I decided to have gastric bypass, and did fairly well, although I never made under 200 pounds. My low weight was 208(for about a day!), then my body settled out at 225-235 for the next several years. I have gained and lost the same 40 pounds of regain every other year for the last 5 years...currently at 260 pounds.
I have decided to have a revision on my existing bypass. I will be having a sleeve over the existing bypass(essentially, have the pouch size reduced to its original size).
My endocrinologist does not believe this is necessary. He says that I am a success story because I have maintained a 120+ lb weight loss for close to 20 years. I disagree! I don't feel like a success story. I never made goal and I have been battling regain for 5 years! My knees and hips don't feel successful! The extra weight, with my age and existing arthritis is painful! I don't want to wind up "crippled" due to pain, fatigue, etc... as I get older.
This is the choice I am making and I am hoping for good outcomes! I know what to expect....been down this road before. Hoping to finally make "Onederland" and give my joints and self-esteem a big ol' boost!
I would love to hear from anyone here who has had this type of revision. All I keep hearing from people is, "I didn't think they could do a revision on a gastric bypass." Well, yes, they can. I have found a few folks on here, but have not had any response from them. Would love to hear from others. How did you do? Please share! Thanks!
