    Default Un-Suport Group

I typically brag about my support group, but last night it was just CRAZY! I felt like the only sane person in the room. Here are some examples of things people said just for laughs.

    - I didn’t have surgery, but have to eat like I did to support my wife. (Don’t think it’s possible to eat like a bariatric patient with an entire stomach.)

    - I don't know how to grocery shop now that we eat less food. (Maybe buy a smaller piece of salmon?)

    - I cry when I see food on my plate, food commercials, and wish I never had surgery. (Really, you would rather be obese? Who on earth enjoys being fat? And how did you pass your psych evaluation?)

    - I baked an entire cake, had one bite, and threw it out. (Now that’s just stupid. Either don’t bake the cake, feed it to your family, or maybe bring it to the office.)

    - I had surgery 3 years ago and lost almost 200 pounds but have not bought a single new piece of clothing. (Don’t know how your pants stay up.)

    - I have a new kitchen so have to cook. (How about your get creative with your protein and veggies?! We cook all the time.)

-I have a family and they have snacks. (You could eat the snacks and gain back all your weight, which is probably what’s going to happen.)

My husband (over dinner of marinated buffalo crock pot chicken breasts and roasted cauliflower) asks “Why do you go?” Good question! Buy the way, he dipped his chicken in blue cheese dressing. I did not, but I didn’t cry about it.

I have not gone to the "local" support group in my area for that same reason. I am winging it on my own with the support of the board here. LOL

sraebaer, I laughed and cried at the same time! My favorite question I've encountered is "how soon after VSG can you smoke weed", seriously.
I sometimes wonder how much research folks do prior to choosing the surgery.

I did not have a psych eval (but have been on the crazy train since birth); however, I did know that this was a lifetime change that I CHOSE to make. My health is better to an extraordinary degree. I have exxtremely supportive "ologists" (all 7 of them) and because my multiple chronic health issues are sooo much better post surgery, I am willing and grateful to live this way the rest of my life.

That said, I am scale obsessed....but y'all are incredibly supportive of every one's unique walk on this journey.

    Good thread, sraebaer.

Something I've come to understand is that only some of the people who have WLS have the drive to thrive!

Others really believed and hoped and still hope that WLS is the easy way out.

Changing ourselves and changing our behavior is the only way out. And it is not always easy.

But it is absolutely worth the effort we make to thrive.

It's a choice we make every day.

    Can I get an amen?!

HAHAHAHA... One thing I noticed when I went to support group is the amount of people who said they had regained. They said they were still happy though as they are still smaller what they were originally. They looked quite large still to me and I thought it was a shame that they haven't learned to cook and put in some good habits. I know it's hard for people but life is hard and if you don't change those fundamental things then it's not going to work :-s

Not really stupid actually. # 1 I don't work outside of the home so no office to take it to and # 2 I live alone. So yep I've done this with a snack cake mix before. Not often but I have. Same with pizza - I usually keep the small single serving individual pizzas in the freezer or make my own but once in awhile I crave a local place that I love. I've been known to order a medium (no small will be delivered) and then eat one piece and toss the rest.
