    Default Questions after surgery

    Hi!

I'm due to have the sleeve the first of the first part of the year. I will have completed insurance requirements on Nov 19th and they will schedule me. I'm trying to get things taken care of like: purchasing proteins etc.

I have a couple questions if anyone has any input j would really appreciate it!

    1. I'm needing to find liquid protein shots. I need 3 a day x 2 months, so 180. Is there a brand that's better than others and are they hard to get down?

    2. I sleep 10 hours a night now and can't seem to survive on less without being very tired. Does this change after surgery?

Thank you all for all your input!

I have never heard of protein shots, so I can't help you there.
What I do know, is that my sleep pattern changed.
I wake up much earlier in the morning now.

Here is a video from a bariatric surgeon, that explains why that can happen:

English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

10 hours of sleep a night sounds dreamy to me! My surgery was on 8/29. Before and after surgery I get about 5-7 hours a sleep a night (depending on my 1 year old). I feel more rested now on the same amount of sleep than I did prior to surgery and losing about 20 pounds. Usually on the weekends I sleep until about 7, but find myself awaking around my normal 5:45am wake up time or shortly after. So it's quite possible you'll be needing less sleep and have more energy after surgery. Best wishes to you!

I'm not sure about the protein shots, but the sleep pattern I can speak to.

The two weeks before surgery, I was sleeping from 10 or 11 pm to 5 am ((If I was lucky). Post surgery, It was 5 am wake up, about 10 pm bed time. But I would have to nap in the day for about 45 min to an hour after I would walk. And I might have been walking too long at a time, but it doesn't matter now.

I have really bad seasonal allergies, to ragweed specifically. I get allergy shots for them, but this time of year, I always feel like I have a cold. I thought MAYBE this year I wouldn't feel it as bad, but alas I was wrong. The last three days, so Saturday, Sunday and today, I went to bed at 10 pm and woke up at 10 am or later! I think its my reaction to the ragweed. AND I lost my voice. Oh well, it happens to me every year this time. I'll deal with it.

It's not the same for everyone, and I can only speak to my experience.

    Hope this helps,

    ~*~Christina~*~

I have never heard of protein shots. Odd. Maybe it's something your doctor is trying to sell? Most of us used protein shakes.

Don't know anything about protein shots.

I do know, however, that I need less sleep than I used to. I used to sleep 10+ hours / night on a weeknight, 13+hours on the weekend, and always needed a nap.

Now? I only need 7-8 hours of sleep. I sleep 8-9 on the weekends. I've not needed a nap since I've lost the weight. I have more than enough energy to get through my workday AND go to the gym. It's a great feeling!

So I had to look up protein shots. You are the first person I have seen mention them. I can see how it would be easier to get them down as they are only 2.5-3 oz versus the 8-11 oz that most protein shakes are. Not sure anything about taste.
I definitely can get by on a lot less sleep now that I am not obese. But during the first few months, especially the first week, you will be more tired.

Apparently it won't allow that first link but those are specifically from a bariatric company. Just google protein shots.

Thank you all so much for the replies and input. My sleeping is a contention between my husband an myself. I've been overweight for 30 years now and don't remember needing this much sleep.

The protein shots are not sold through my Dr. I was given a sheet with the diet plan from the nutritionist. I will have to inquire about them st my next visit. They seem to be about $2.50 a shot and I need 3x a day, so that can add up along with protein and special chewable vitamins.

    Thanks all!
