Smile New Here! Sleeve Surgery soon.

Hello All. My surgery is the 25th. Pretty much on 2 weeks of shakes diet pops and water. Some Jello. Don't really like Jello and my surgeon was very easy going and said he didn't really care just keep it sensible. Weight is just falling off of me and I do have a salad and Salmon here and there if hunger gets too much for me. Thanks for reading. Im here to learn how others are handling life after The Gastric Sleeve. The surgery doesn't really scare me but what happens after trying to swallow. My surgeon says the hernia repair may make swallowing harder. Regardless Im ready to go. Any advice appreciated.

Hi LillyKat, Congratulations on your decision for surgery. I didn't have too much trouble at all swallowing afterwards and never had a problem with fluids, some people are different but it was fine for me. The first week is rough but it does then get better and better. Keep a positive attitude all the way and you will do really well :-)

Hi LillyKat, Welcome to the forum. I didn't have any problems with swallowing after surgery. I can't explain it but my preference after surgery was room temperature drinks and that included coffee.

Sip sip and sip some more. Use your cell phone to set a reminder to sip every 10-15 minutes. Post surgery I was told the inside of the stomach is about the size of a standard ink pen with the swelling so very little fits in it.

    Take care.

But, my Dr had me do liquids for 2 weeks after, so maybe it will be easier to swallow by them:::

LilyKat, welcome! I had a difficult time about the first 3 months - not impossible, just had to go slow ... I could only take one pill at a time and then wait 5 minutes, and before I could take a handful. However, I only need 4 pills a day versus 17 before VGS! This is a place for great support.

Oh wow!! 17 pills??? poor Annie!!! may I be indiscreet and ask what those many pills were for?? my in-laws take 12 a day : they are in remission and still take a treatment for cancer, have thyroid and diabetes issues... I thought they took to much medication, they have a GP who's always finding something else to give them ...but 17!! no offense!! just curious about treatment...

and I'm very happy for you that now you take only 4!!!! congrats!!

    Welcome.
I too had a hernia repair and had no issues with swallowing. Of course there are only tiny amounts of liquid to start with.
As all stated above regular small sips are the key.
    Best wishes.
