Hi, I am 10 days post-op and am miserable. Please tell me I am not alone. I feel nauseous, have had diarrhea, cannot drink as much as required, and I am lethargic. Any bits of advice are welcome. What clear liquid tricks do you have?
It is a bit of a rough trot at first, I'm sure you will soon be feeling much better though. What you have to do is just constantly sip, carry a water bottle around with you or have a glass by your side all the time. You will certainly feel much better if you do this and you can do it! Try to get some fresh air and lots of rest too. Getting some nausea medication will also help. But hang in there it does get better!
The first week or so is the hardest. It will get better. Hang in there. Have you asked your doctor for a liquid anti nausea? Also, if you are not getting in enough fluids it will actually cause the symptoms you are having. Diarrhea and nausea. Staying hydrated is crucial. Try sugar free popsicles. They helped me a lot. Remember that you need to sip small sips and frequently versus trying to down what you are drinking. I had a hard time drinking cold drinks initially and did better with warm liquids. See if that helps you. Are you on full liquids or just clear liquids? For clear try some tea with Splenda (if you want it sweet). For full liquids I would make myself a latte. I would make it with espresso, nonfat fairlife milk (it has a more protein than regular milk), and Splenda. I also added a scoop of MavNutrition Collagen powder for extra protein. It is tasteless but adds some protein.
I was vomiting for 3 days non stop post-op and the surgeon told me to drink juice, because the the GI track will handle it better than water. So I mixed water with juice.
I never used sugar free (any fake sugar makes me sick) and did suffer some dehydration during the first 3 months but drinking really cold or little hot did help. Warm I couldn't stand and still don't like.I also made my own Popsicles.
Clear liquid I had herbal tea, chicken broth etc...actually broth was really well accepted by my sensitive stomach.
Hang in there it will get better!

It will get easier every day. I liked warm (not hot) ginger tea. And kind of water-y Crystal light in my water.
Hi, I'm 11 days post op and I have had good days and bad. Nausea and the lack of fluid intake for sure. I've drink unsweetened Powerade and it works for me. I also try decaf coffee and add spenda, Apple Juice and protein shake or powder for protein. Right now, Im more concerned about my tummy healing and not feeling sick so once I feel well enouph, I will result back to getting the required protein. Feel better, were in this together.
Thanks everyone for your support and advice. I do well with the popsicles and broth, its just all the protein drinking that makes me feel not so good. I am looking forward to seeing my doctor on Wednesday, hoping to get to move on to full liquids and maybe mix this powder with some almond milk or fairlife milk.
