1st morning home, chest is tight and pain pills seem to be stuck in my chest. I will start my hydration and hope it helps. What did you eat 1st? Protein shakes? Sugar free popcicles? Scared too eat anything?
The latter...
The ice helps the swelling go down, I ate a lot of sugar free popcicles.
I could not do more than sip, sip, sip, all day long.
I couldn't get the protein drinks down for a couple of days.
I drank water with water enhancer, said popcicles, ice shavings, clear broths, luke warm tea, sugar free jello, things like that.
Try to find out what works best for you, drinking from a teaspoon, out of a glass, straw (my doctor didn't disapproved), baby drinking mug, anything that makes it easier for you.
Work on getting those fluids in, that is the most important right now and you only job.
Just sip, walk, rest.
Repeat.
Take your pain meds on time, like every six to eight hours, according to your instructions.
The first days are the most uncomfortable, it will get better!
Hang in there.
And welcome to the loosers side!
Here's how I ate the first 6 weeks, basically protein shakes and liquids those first 2 weeks. (I can't imagine you had surgery and were sent home with no instructions?). You MUST get the liquids in (and the shakes count toward our fluid goal) or you'll end up back in the hospital with dehydration.

First congratulations on getting sleeved! Staying hydrated is your number one goal right now. Sip, Sip, Sip, and Sip some more....that's about all your new tummy can handle. When I got home for the hospital, honestly, I didn't want anything. However, did suffer from head hunger and time hunger. But mainly I sipped on water and broth. Also, had sugar free popiscles and jello. After being release, I didn't take the pain meds but you should take your as the doctor prescribed.
Hang in there!
Sipping is key. You don’t want to swallow air because that causes the most uncomfortable feeling.
I couldn’t tolerate cold liquids when I was first home. I slowly let my stomach adjust. And i love ice.
Lukewarm
Liquids will help soothe, but the ice will help swelling. If you can, alternate between ice and broth. It’s like when you ice a knee injury. Never too much or too long of either.
Good luck, and lean on us for help. That’s what we’re here for.

It can be a little daunting at first - particularly if you are on your own.
As above you really have to try to sip water as often as you can. Dehydration is not a good thing.
Secondly if you can try and relax it might help a little. Maybe pop on some music that you like, read a book/magazine, blob in front of the tv., nap as much as you feel that you want to....all the time sipping that darned water/protein shake etc ;-)
It will get better as each day progresses.
And you are not really alone.....we are here x
Your pain meds are pills? My surgeon prescribed me liquid oxycodone. At any rate, the first week is the hardest but I was fine being alone. I ate creamed soups made with milk instead of water. I would literally eat a spoonful and then have to wait before I could eat more. I also did sugar free popsicles. The protein shakes made me gag right after surgery due to the sweetness of them.
I cannot imagine trying to take a hard pill right after surgery! Ask your doctor for something else. And yes, hydrate. I found ginger tea, crystal light, decaf green tea were great. I don't like cold things like popsicles. And protein drinks count as liquids.
