If you just want to shrink your stomach, cosmetic surgery might be better. In any case you have to look at your issues with food. People do gain their weight back even with this surgery.

    Yes.

This is not a cosmetic surgery.
This is a major surgery for people with serious and hazardous health issues.
And we have to work really hard to get and keep all the pounds off.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

A BMI of 37 is in the obese category. I think you would be thrilled with the sleeve surgery, but do your research and make your own decision. Good luck!

My bmi was 36.7. I dropped down to 102 lbs at my lowest, and have come up to 116 over the last year and a half. I wear a zero now where they were too big last year. I did not try to get this low and I eat pure junk, so if you don't want to lose a serious amount of weight, don't go through such a drastic process. It can be brutal, but it does the job.

Nearly 4 years out, and just got sick for the billionth time because I tried to eat more than my tummy allows. I never have learned yet to stop that.

You are definitely eligible weight wise. But it is not a magic bullet. You have to create good habits and make good choices or you can become ill. If you are serious, read up. Ultimately only you can make the decision that is right for you. I am glad I was sleeved and love my new life.

Wow! Katrina- your results are amazing! My surgery is still 5 weeks out, but my BMI is 36 and I am 5'5". I cannot imagine being a size 0!! I would be thrilled to be an on going size 10. What is your average daily calorie intake? Did you exercise during your first year? What do you contribute to this amazing success?

I am concerned you are still getting sick; it really messes with your electrolytes/potassium and your enamel on your teeth. Can you set a timer? Or try multi tasking when you eat?

I have the problem when I eat too quickly -- I seldom eat too much. But I'm trying to slowo down....

To the OP ... yes, hang out here and get a feeling for the kinds of people who've chosen WLS and WHY they've chosen it.

Also get a feeling for what's involved in doing the real work -- not just losing the weight, but maintaining the weight loss long-term. Because if you think you can have the surgery, lose the weight, and go back to your initial lifestyle of slothing about and eating crap food, you will be shocked, SHOCKED! to find yourself regaining a lot of the weight you lost.

This is not just about surgery. This is about having the balls to change your life forever.

My personal opinion and experience, of course.

Amen, Ann2, that's the whole thing in a nutshell (no pun intended) "get the balls" to change. It's a brave decision and we all need to remain steadfast and brave to the end, which hopefully will be way in the future now that we've gotten healthier through the tool of surgery Love your spirit!!

By the way, the surgery doesn't "shrink" your stomach, it changes the anatomy and the way you metabolize foods. It's not a miracle or quick cure, please research and take it seriously before proceeding; this is major surgery and changes lives. Good luck on making a more informed decision. Also, Saxenda "mirrors" the way you might feel after surgery and is very similar to the feeling of restriction you will get to a greater extent with surgery.
