Default Can you lose too much too fast?? Day 10

I have lost 19 lbs in 10 days....that seems REALLY high to me when my docs range is 60-90 and my goal is 100? 10 days?

Can you lose too much too fast? I haven't had a BM in about 4-5 days either...is that normal? I am on the soft foods plan and have had cottage cheese, chicken salad, chicken and noodles, salmon, and peaches so far. I drink a protein shot with water added throughout the day to help get more protein in and "chew" cups of ice in between meals. I feel great...really good and don't show any signs of dehydration, starting to read my body to know I need to drink or eat, started working out 20-30 mins but still worried I am losing too much too soon.

I know it will slow down or stall out at some point and I am still in the recovery stage technically. I have my first follow up appt with my surgeon in 2 days so will be asking him too but still....anyone else experience this?

The only thing is I am still having unbelievable pressure in my esophagus after eating or drink too fast...like the food can not get into my stomach and just sits there. Last night was the worse but I KNOW I ate too fast. Once its in my stomach I am fine but getting there has been a pain. Really hoping that goes away soon

So far so good....but time does seem to be crawling by LOL

Hi. Congrats on your success so far!

I will let you know I lost 18 lbs in the first week. Eating absolutely nothing will allow for the pounds to fall off. I would worry more about the BM situation than anything else. Maybe take a stool softener.

I don't know but Congrats on the weight loss. I'm about 12 days out and have lost 10 lbs. I get the same pains as you. If I drink too fast my chest hurts or it feels like someone has stomped me in my back. Ughh, so painful. You'd think once would be enough to learn but it keeps happening- which means I keep drinking/eating too fast. I forget all about the surgery and new way of life when I'm thirsty, so that's something I'm continuing to work on.

Thanks...haven't had a "Real" BM since before surgery but read thats normal after to just be fluid (TMI I know). But even then haven't had anything since about day 5

I have an acupuncture appt tomorrow and will see if she can help get things moving.

The no bowel movement, while normal, is NOT good.
    Trust me.

That first one is going to hurt like hell. And the longer you wait, the worse it'll be.

Go to the store asap. Get some benefiber and start mixing that in with your water. Get some miralax, and take it! Get some stool softeners. Take them.

By all means, talk to your doc about that asap as well. I've heard of folks having to go to the doc because of no BM. Don't let that fester. My first Post-Op BM hurt like hell. It does get better, but even on all liquids, you need to be going.

You will lose fast at first. I would mention the constipation to the doctor. That eating slowly takes awhile to get used to. I ate fast for so many years. It doesn't go away overnight.

I think I went a week before having to drop the kids off at the pool, but I remember dropping weight like crazy the week before the surgery through the four weeks after. Liquid diet really does wonders in losing weight, although I'm convinced a lot of this was water loss because I was eating so little and one of the body's coping mechanisms is pulling glucose out of muscles when you're essentially starving. Agree that that first time you drop one down the chute could be memorable. I'd recommend taking fiber pills and stool softener tablets in moderation to help things along. Definitely avoid laxatives, those can really mess up things and trigger flu like symptoms. As you get more into high protein concentrations without fat or carbs (typical at the onset of the diet transition), constipation is definitely a risk.

I take colace, mostly because I'm anemic and have been on iron forever. My body has gotten used to fiber rich foods so it was Never a problem that I would have to deal with. After surgery, I didn't go from the Day previous, until the Friday the same week, so 5 days. I was so uncomfortable like I would pop. I took the colace and I felt amazing after the first visit to the porcelain goddess. It was a longer, more strained conversation than I was used to but I was able to alleviate the pressure. Finally starting pureed and soft foods tomorrow and I think I will have an easier time. (I can't wait till tuna fish salad for lunch, lol!)

But make sure you are getting enough fluids...it makes a great difference.

    Good Luck, and congrats!

Sweet baby Jesus! 4 weeks, Michelle? You gotta do something. That sounds terrible. If I go a day without, I'm a miserable cow. It took me about 4 days after my most recent surgery (breast augmentation), and I was ready to kill everyone. I'm a huge fan of prescription Linzess. It's magic.

The weight loss starts out really fast and then slows down. Sounds like you're doing really well!

I had terrible constipation for about 10 months post op. It got a little better. What has FINALLY put me on the regular is to take a high potency magnesium 400mg softgels every night. If I do get blocked up I can take 2. It was recommended by a friends sleeve surgeon. Ever since she told me I have been using it. I feel so much better not being constipated. I had tried everything. I used stool softeners, enemas, and suppositories. I was totally miserable. Now I am a new girl!

You really need to take the constipation seriously and get things moving, the extra protein, vitamins and pain meds can constipate you. You are at risk for a bowel perforation.
