    Default Black Bean Pasta

    I bought a box of this today and I'm super excited to try it. pic1.png

    I've had the tofu noodles before, but in spaghetti, I wasn't too big of a fan. I LOVE pasta, but I won't do a high carb pasta again. This has 23 grabs of carbs but 12 grams fiber, so net 11 carbs.
    Anyone tries these before? I'll probably cook these on wednesday. If they're any good, i'll be buying them a lot more. They're a bit expensive, but super high protein, super high fiber, and low carb. Should be a great combination on a post-op diet!

    I told my wife I really wanted to try it and I said I'd make a little tonight for just a taste. But - ever since the sleeve, if I'm not hungry - I don't eat! That's a great thing.

    I think Wednesday is still a go though. I've got leftovers for tomorrow. (that's another thing since the sleeve - a whole lot more leftovers!)

    I've tried mung bean pasta, but I didn't like it very much, neither did hubby.
    I used to love pasta (who didn't?), and I have been looking for alternatives.
    I've had lentil pasta, which was kind of okay and I am currently using dinkel wheat (is that a good word? it is what Google Translation gives ).
    That is kinda good too, but nothing beats the real deal.
    I am going to try the whole wheat next.
    If anyone has another pasta I could try, please let me know.
    English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

    I have added Banza brand chickpea pasta to my diet. It is high in protein and fiber. The taste and texture is also good and neutral.

    One thing to keep in mind too...

    Serving size is listed as 2oz. Before, I'd probably eat 3 servings. I haven't had pasta since pre-sleeve. I'm guessing when I do again, it'll be 1/2 to 1/3 serving, so even less carbs.
    Still hopefully optimistic this black bean stuff is good.

    I prefer zoodles the best with a tasty sauce or meat sauce. I am 100% Italian and haven't really eaten but a few bites of "real" pasta in 7 years and never miss it. I've also tried the Banza past and it's not too bad; a little "toothy" but not a bad substitute.

    I tried the pasta last night. I made 1 ounce (1/2 a serving) and mixed it with some turkey chili (no beans). That made just over two servings of chili for me - last night's dinner and tonight's dinner.

    So to my dinner, I added 65 calories (that's a good thing), 1/2 g of fat, 3 1/2 net grams carbs, 3 grams fiber, 1 gram sugar and 6 grams protein.
    The flavor with the chili was very good. Texture was fine. No complaints.

    I have a lot left. it's an 8 ounce box. Before surgery, that might have been a single meal (maybe 2). Now it's 10+ meals! I'll probably make spaghetti with either lean ground beef or soy crumbles this weekend. That'll be the real test. But so far, I'm very happy with this!

    Managed to buy a box of this last night in our local supermarket. Who would've thought down here in little old NZ we would be able to get the exact same product?! I'm looking forward to trying it. Did you just use it in the same way you would a "normal" pasta?
    I see they also have chick pea and also edamame pasta which I will also be interested to try. I bought the black bean one as it had the best nutrition stats.

    I bought the edamame but haven't tried it yet.

    it's a weird texture. I'm not sure if it would translate well to a spaghetti dish.

    I add it to chili right now - kinda like a chili mac (i make a homemade vegetarian chili with Soy Crumbles. I'm not vegetarian, but this is more fiber and less fat than anything else I could use).

    When I cook it, I break it up very small. Seems to work better for me that way. It cooks fast - I boil for 4 minutes. My stomach may be bigger than yours - i was eating about 19 grams (just less than 1/2 a serving) but I'm cutting that back to 13-14 (had 16 today - that was probably still a tad too much).

    So while it's expensive, serving size is probably pretty small, so a box will last a few weeks at least.
