    Default Ready Set Go

It's been 11 years to come to this point of insurance to say yes to weight lose surgery. Monday is my date for this all to come true finally. Very nervous and scared that I am making the right choice. I have kept this private with only my husband and children and boss at work. I hear so much negativity and judgement on the subject I have decided to keep this private for now. This is the first time I truely feel I am putting myself first. I deserve this! Ready Set Go! Here I come!

As I told myself, this was my decision and no one's business but my own. If I chose to tell someone, it was because I felt they would only help in knowing. Like a support system of sorts. I have heard so much negativity being heavy my whole life, (from age 9 I was overweight), it wouldn't bother me anymore.

You are absolutely deserve this journey! Good luck with the insurance. I'm sure it will be fine.

    Congratulations!

    Yep, I agree with you.

I am 6 months down the road with this and I am so glad no one knows, I blame it on my thyroid issues and change the subject fast.

There is truth in the thyroid but people don't ask for the details the evident scar around my neck seems to stop people asking any more phew!

Do you know my professor also uses this surgery for Diabetes alone!

It helps so much within no time it corrects so many health issues. It was offered to my Husband and he is normal weight, my husband said No as he felt he had been given other directions to help with his condition by the same professor and he is happy with the results without a sleeve.

My surgeon was actually saying there's a large group of bariatric specialists who have teamed with the American Diabetes Association to try and get insurance companies to recognize gastric sleeve as a covered treatment for diabetes because the data shows it is, and it is now recognized as, a cure for Type ii diabetes.

    Welcome.
    You absolutely do deserve this!
Your life will change (for the better) beyond belief.
I also only told a few people that I really, really trusted to be supportive. The rest, if I was asked, I told I was eating less and exercising more - both of which is true. I still don't feel comfortable telling some close to me (I trust my initial judgment on these people) and probably never will but am more open to telling people I meet now if it comes up in conversation.
It's your decision and yours only and really no one else's business.
    All the best!

Hi Kris. Hope your surgery went well. I also chose to be private about my surgery. I am really happy with that decision. I did tell my immediate family and 4 close friends. It made it great to have support without having judgement from the negative people. Hope you are well. Remember week one is the hardest so hang in there.

Kris, I went the other way -- I'm 66, and have had 3 serious bouts with cancer where I lost my hair and got quite thin. Of course those close to me know this, so when I realized the "thin" might trigger their worries, I just told them (one on one) that this was a choice for my CAD/diabetes/HBP. They've been cery supportive especially when they see how much more life I have in my days! And how much less medicine.

We are all at different stages and body is very private. Hope you are doing well!
