    Default Sleep Apnea Questions.....

For those of you with Sleep Apnea who use or did use a CPAP, when did your Dr. say you didn't need the CPAP any longer? Was it after a certain number of lbs lost? Did you have to go and do a sleep study to get off of it? Did you just quit using the machine one night and you were able to sleep good?

How long did it take to get used to sleeping without the CPAP?

I haven't researched this enough yet, but there really isn't any good info that I have been able to find on this subject for the little amount I have tried so far.

A sleep study is done to reevaluate. But machines need to be adjusted for some people every 20 pounds lost or gained. At least that is according to my pulmonologist.

I'm not sure if this comment will be seen? But, this of great concern to me. Were you able to successfully stop using your machine? I've been on one st least 12 years. Thanks in advance.

Everyone is different, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and stopped using my CPAP after I lost 105 lbs. I adjusted pretty well to not using my CPAP within a couple nights. I do use a fitness tracker and a sleep tracking app and everything appears to be normal.

I did quit using my CPAP because I was waking up with a sharp pain on my lower left side. Went to CPAP DR. and she said that happens because my pressure was to high and it causes air to go down into your stomach instead of your lungs. She reset my pressure to a lower level and all is good. Will go in soon to be tested to determine if I have left the sleep apnea world and returned to normal.

I was able to sleep just fine without the machine the very first night I tried. I was surprised it went so smooth after being on a CPAP for years. I am down 108 lbs in just under 5 months so I assume I am just about ready to say good bye sleep apnea!!
