Heart rate down

Hi everyone I am 3 weeks post op doing great down almost 30 lbs. just wondering if anyone else had there heart rate slow down after surgery. My heart rate has dropped from mid 60 s to high 40 s to low 50 s. They almost didn't let me come home the day after surgery due to heart rate in upper 30 s to low 40 s. It has come up some. Just wondering if it fixes itself. Thank you

I only had the surgery on August 28. The cardiologist cut my metoprolol in half. And my hydrochlorthiazide in half because my pressure is down to 100/60 and heart rate has slowed. I was getting dizzy and lightheaded.

And yes, you should talk to your surgeon about this.

But yes, that happened to me -- and to many people. Our heart rates post-op go way down. Several months after surgery, my resting heart rate was down into the 40s. I had a theory (hey, I get to have theories, ;0 ) that as obese people our blood veins became more numerous and larger than normal-weight people, so our blood was just wandering around in there not causing much pressure of any kind.

Over time that changed. We lost more weight, our bodies adapted and began to normalize.

These days, four years post-op, my resting heart rate is up in the high 50s or low 60s. It's still "below normal," but in the good way.

BTW, I exercise quite a bit -- aquarobics, yoga, and lots of walking.

P.S. I just measured my heart rate while drinking my first cup of coffee, and it's 59.

Do you take medication for high blood pressure? I know that if you continue to take it post sleeve it will affect your heart rate. Most people need to come off BP meds right away.
