    Default 3 out of 4!

Came home from a 2 week vacation with a 4 pound gain. Six of us hiked all over Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula (beaches, rainforests, and mountains!) I did not eat properly all the time. Packed picnics for our hikes of sandwiches, chips, etc, things I basically never eat. Also packed fruits, veggies, and nuts, things I do eat.

Good news, lost 3 of those pounds in one day of getting back to my rule of two, a protein and veggie at each meal. Just goes to show if you stay on top of little gains, you won't have any huge gain surprises.

    Love my mountains!!Attachment 27903

Oh Sharon, I miss the PNW so much! It was home for so long (and still in my heart). You look fabulous and happy. And yes, daily vigilence and firm markers of twhere we are "not" okay with something really help us keep using the tool.

It is so humid and hot (still in the 90s) here in NC. No way to walk outside with serious heat stroke!

Yep, home to the 90s here too. It was fun wearing pants and sweatshirts!

What a great holiday. Its great that you are doing what you love.
I've just come back from holiday too. We stayed at an island resort and whilst I took protein powder and bars with me there was lots of food that I wouldn't now normally eat. A little bit of juggling and mainly eating as much protein as I could was interspersed with a little indulgence here and there. I don't drink alcohol anymore and I think that really helped keep my weight in check. Back home now and back to my normal eating plan. I'm a creature of habit and it is nice to be back to my usual meals - although I would love to still be on holiday!

Sounds like you had a fabulous time exploring here in my neck of the woods! It was 40 this morning when I took the dog for a walk at dawn then in the 70's after work! I never know how to dress this time of year! LOL

Way to pull yourself back on track quickly. Goes to show how in-tune you are and able to make those adjustments. Encouraging, for sure.

So very much of weight gain that happens during vacations, holidays, and other travel is purely travel related. Especially after long car trips and airplane trips.

Being retired, I now travel a lot. And I can lose 3-5 pounds in 3-5 days after returning home. Clearly, it's not fat gained, but due to more salt than usual, constipation, dehydration (which makes us retain water -- sounds crazy, but hey), and the extra water our livers use to store glycogen after we've been eating more carbs and desserts than we eat at home.

Remember that a liver full of glycogen weighs 7 pounds more (mostly water) than a liver depleted of glycogen.

And you're absolutely right -- getting back on the healthy-eating horse after having a good time on vacation is all we ever have to do to maintain our weight losses.

Same. Gained a couple of pounds my bday weekend from eating and drinking but had lost them by Wednesday by being mindful. I agree you totally need to stay on top of even small gains. It is so easy for 4 to creep up to 40. I can tell you I will not buy bigger clothes. I will cut off circulation with tight ass jeans before I go larger. LOL.

Good for you for staying on top!

As long as we keep being vigilant, we can do anything.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Such a beautiful photo. So great that you are getting out & enjoying life. Congrats on getting back on target & for also letting us who haven't gone through surgery yet, that there is a fun & normal life after surgery.

Best quote ever! That's why I always wonder how people can say they gained 40 or something pounds back. Didn't they notice they couldn't get their pants on?
