    Default Meat and gerd

I was just thinking yesterday about how I just really don't want to eat meat very much. I ate my dinner, and only had the smoked chicken left on my plate. I was wondering why I can't make myself want it. Same with my chicken lo mein a few days ago, only chicken left. Then I read today something about how gerd leaves you only wanting carby foods because you're able to tolerate them better. Ding ding! That sounds exactly like me. That could be the explanation for why I vomit so frequently after eating meat. From the get go my tummy has only handled carbs. I have terrible gerd that is not well controlled with prescription Protonix. Maybe I won't feel so disappointed in myself for always choosing carbs now. Do any of you experience the same thing or have I just become a junk food junky since surgery?

I just started this journey. I have the worst acid reflux I've ever had, so bad it feels like a Molotov cocktail in my gut. I can't tell you how bad it is but I think you know. I am only on thinned out protein shakes for my "meals" and liquids. I wish I wanted carbs!!! All I want is a tuna plate or a piece of barbecued chicken...so strange. I hope the reflux starts to get better when I'm at puréed foods. This will ultimately drive me crazy. I'm on 40 mg of omeprazole (Prilosec) in the AM and 20 at night. I wonder if I need something stronger for now. IDK...I wish I had an answer.
    Thanks,

All I know that for me, simple carbs are slider foods.
And once I start eating them, I want more and more.
For me the simple carbs are addictive.
That is why I don't eat them anymore (well, in rare occasions and in moderation).
As for the complex carbs I still don't eat more than around 100 grams per day.
I still eat my proteins first, than my veggies and if room, the carbs.
I don't eat meat, so I can't say anything about your problem there.
I eat fish, but I don't have gerd so much, it is quite manageable.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Oh me too on the sliders foods....and I very quickly retain water (since it comes right off if I discontinue the carbs). They are not my friends, apparently. I do eat meat, but I chew very very well (almost mushy liquid TMI), and no more than 3 oz at a time.

You need protein to keep your health; your hair, your skin, your bones. When you say "meat", what do you mean? I find I can do beef (when prepared correctly at home), or fish, or chicken cooked en papillote really well. I can eat it in Chinese dishes, with veggies. But do not skip protein.

I agree with the cooked really well, but I also understand why the dark meat chicken instead of the chicken breasts. I had a little bit of chicken breasts yesterday but it was way too tough. Next time, I need to get thighs for me. But the turkey burger (sans bun) was delicious!

No worries about getting in enough protein. I drink two shakes a day and sometimes a protein water, too. I eat those PB&J frozen sandwiches or a protein granola bar for snacks. Last night I ate a fried chicken sandwich from Zaxby's, and did fine. I'm eating chicken from Panda Express right now, and it hurts. It's so good though.

That was all I could eat before I started hurting and hiccuping.

I'm still trying to find my happy space for food. I'm trying to get in a little veggies. I cook them till their good and soft, and season them really well (spicy veggies are amazing), but I still need to learn protein then veggies and how much protein. I get 60-80 grams easily every day.
But there have been a few days where I've eaten and wished I'd stopped one or two bites sooner. When that happens, I go for a 20 minute walk until I feel better. Just a little uncomfortable - nothing major. More like a gentle reminder that - yes, I've been sleeved and yes - the sleeve is working!

You will get there and learn your stopping point. I know I "overate" several times in the beginning and then laid there moaning like a woman in labor. LOL. But you'll get the hang of it and find your sweet spot. I occasionally still over eat and I will be 2 years post op in November.

I don't really get reflux anymore. Only occasionally. I had it bad in the beginning. As for meat....I eat a lot of meat. I kind of laugh saying that because it is not like I eat a lot but it is a big part of my diet. I also have the issues as Dutchie that if I eat simple carbs I crave more and more of them. So I still try to focus on meat and then veggies. I do eat carbs, though but try to save those for last. Different meats allow for different experiences. Solid chicken breasts are a big harder and I can only eat a little bit. I have an Instant Pot and cook a lot in it. It makes my meats a lot softer and that I think makes them easier for my tummy to digest which in turn makes less tummy woes. I have more issues if I eat at a restaurant.

I also have bad acid reflux/gerd. I was sleeved 1 year ago. I have taken 20mg of PRILOSEC/ omeprazole in the morning and another 20mg at night for the last year.. Just recently cut back to 10mg morning and night and that seems to still work for me. I can't eat any meat that is grilled or smoked or at all spicy. Honestly, I only tolerate very small portions of meat. I also can't eat most fruits or veggies. I know that makes it tough. I mostly survive on protien shakes and junk food. Cookies, chips, ice cream and soups. They are really the only things I can keep down. I have lost 60 pounds and stay at my goal weight even eating so much sugar and fat. It's hard when you really can't eat fruits, veggies or meat.

I don't eat meat hardly Katrina, I eat seafood instead. I never had indigestion in my life till I was sleeved and meat is the thing that will do it for me so you might be onto something there. Do you like the seafood?
