Default The toad and the apple

Not a fairy tale, but a true story.
I still don't know what hit me.
I am 18 months out now.
Yesterday I had my mid afternoon snack (a protein bar) and about one hour later I decided I wanted to eat an apple.
    No problems there.
I took small bites, I chewed well and all was fine.
Until... 30 minutes after I finished eating the apple.
I know that technically we cannot have a dumping.
But oh boy, this was a full size one!
Cold sweats, I felt like passing out, became very nauseous and had to lay down.
I still had no idea what hit me, until I had the toad froth (thanks Annie, that word makes it so much clearer!).
I have laid in my bed for about 1,5 hour.
    After that I was fine.
Dinner was not a problem, that went down well.

I did not expect this to happen after so long and I still have no idea why this happened.
I had an episode like this a couple of months after the surgery, but there it was clear I ate way too fast.
Not this time though, at least I think...
I sure hope this won't happen again.
Beware of the apple and the toad!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I have stopped eating protein bars as they always make my stomach feel not quite right. No clue why.

Same here, protein bars are not my friends. The taste is either weird or it's too dry.
I tried many brands because it was convenient to use a few of those when traveling during the first months post sleeve, but being able to eat almost everything, I carry almonds instead now.

The funny thing is, I eat this brand of protein bar since my surgery.
    Not often, but regularly.
I don't think that is the culprit...

First, I am sooooo sorry you had toad froth -- I still get side-swiped by it for no discernable reason. I don't think it was the protein bar, and maybe not the apple, either. Did you peel your apple? I find things that are "fiber-y" sometimes seem to clog the works and I get the back up to toad. Things like a potato skin, or popcorn hull, or bread crust even.

But one time it will be fine, and suddenly bubbles! Hope you are better!

    Thank you Annie!
No, I did not peel the apple, so that maybe it.
I'll definitely peel my next apple and see how that goes down.
I felt fine right after that episode, it took about 1,5 hour.
But the whole thing took my completely by surprise.
I didn't expect this to happen so long after my surgery, that's all...

I'm guessing the peel is your toad initiator (this time)! If I make it past an hour, I feel kinda home free Love ya lady

I will let you know what happens, when I peel the apple.
Not today, but soon... when I feel brave enough...

Funny you should mention this. I really fancied an apple the other day so I ate about 3/4 of a smallish apple. It was the first time I have had apple since surgery. I love fruit but there just isn't room for a lot in my diet these days. any way a little while later I had the dreaded toad froth too. I didn't peel the apple either. It put me off apples a bit but should I feel the need again I will try peeling it and see what happens. It's interesting how different foods react differently to us now.

    Isn't that strange?

But I had a brave moment lately and I have given the apple (with peel) another chance.
I took really small bites, chewed like crazy, left plenty of time between bites (apple began to turn brown ), but I had no trouble at all.
I wil be very cautious from now on.
