    Default Medications

Hi everyone! I’m in the very early stages of considering a gastric sleeve. I’ve been reading threads on this forum and watching videos etc. one question I have is how does a newly sleeved person take their medications if you are only able to drink so little in the beginning? I take several medications which usually requires two gulps of something to drink. I know this may seem like a silly question but I’m just trying to get as much info about every little thing possible. Thank you in advance for any info!

Many medications can be made into a liquid form, and your surgeon would urge you to discuss this with your primary doctor and your pharmacist.

I have been taking all my medications in pill form since 2 days post op, I havnt had any problems. The only thing I did do was split my multi vitamin in half for the first month cause they can be big. I know different drs have different rules towards pills.

For the pain meds my surgeon gave me post op they ordered liquid meds. The rest of my 'regular' pills I took had to be crushed the first 2 weeks post op. I won't lie, taking them was a bit challenging because they were so bitter. Even though I was on liquids only, my surgeon allowed me to use a bit of applesauce to get those down.
I'm now 14 weeks out and I do still have some meds I take....I have learned not to gulp (it really is painful) and take sips to get things down. Someone else also mentioned using a pill spliter for larger pills which is also a great idea. As a side note, I take chewable vitamins so that helps with getting those down.
Best to you as you pursue this new lifestyle....I believe you will be pleased if you decide to move ahead. The Sleeve truly has changed my life!!!
