    Default My first post

Ten days until my surgery. I've been working toward this for thirteen years. It's difficult to believe it's finally going to happen.

The next week will be very busy getting things settled at work before a six week leave. Need to get the house clean and set so I have things at hand while I'm recovering.

Anything surprise you post op that you'd warn me to be prepared for?

My doctor doesn't require the pre op liquid diet. I asked, and he said he found it didn't make much difference. I may do protein shakes the last 4 days before anyway, if only to help myself get used to the routine a bit.

    Any suggestions?

It might be worth doing a few days of liquid diet so you are prepared. Cleaning the house is a great idea, It's lovely to know that you haven't got much to do after. Lots of naps, lots of rest, short walks, maybe make a small amount of thin chicken soup to put in some tiny containers in the freezer (but not too much, you will be eating very little. Congratulations :-)

10 days until my surgery too and like you I have a ton to get ready. I will clean my house but with me being in the hospital for 2-3 days I highly doubt it will stay that way lol. Anyway I just wanted to say Good Luck!

I made bone broth and froze it in 2 oz cups or ice cube trays for easy portions to take out and heat up for liquids stage. Also sugar-free jello in 2 oz cups. I had several kinds of protein drinks around as a lot of people say their tastes changed post op, but for me, I was able to drink all the same as before surgery without trouble.

As for surprises, I was surprised at how smooth my recovery went! I was getting in my fluids from post op day 1 and tolerated protein well when it was added at week 2. Prepare yourself for plenty of short walks, it really helps with getting rid of the gas they introduce to your abdomen for the procedure. And truly; small sips! I gulped down some liquid pain medicine in the hospital and it promptly came back up.....your tummy needs time to heal, so slow and steady wins the race.

Congrats on getting to this point....it has certainly been a long time coming. Pray all goes well for you.

Do not stock up on your protein powder/shake, your taste might change post op. It did for me for several months.
    Good luck!

    How very exciting :-)
Not much to add other than follow your surgeons instructions to a tee, sip water as often as your can and walk as soon as you can increasing the distance everyday. Best wishes for your surgery. Let us know how you get on please.
