Default Pre OP diet and recovery questions

    Hello
My surgery is set for July 31.
    2 questions for now:
1 Do the protein shakes (premier protein 30 grams) 11 oz containers count for both protein and liquid intake as part of the diet?

2 What is a reasonable time frame to go back to work (Dr. says 1-3 weeks) What I want to know is how long did people in here take to recover.

    9 day count down....

Yes, any liquid counts toward your liquid requirement. So count the ounces in those shakes! (They count double, liquid and protein). I counted my one cup of coffee a day too that my doctor said was OK. I kept a journal so I was sure to meet my liquid and protein requirements.

I went back to work in 2 weeks and it was perfect for me. I'm a teacher. But everyone's different in this, so see how you feel and how physically demanding your job is.

Good luck! It is tons of fun!

One thing is for sure, every program is different....my nutritionist says that only protein water counts as both. Protein shakes/drinks do not. I would ask your nutritionist to know for sure.
I took 4 weeks off, because I had the sick time available but I believe I could really have gone back after 2. I will say it was nice to have the time to focus on fluids, and advancing through the food stages and resting/walking etc.
    9 days - very exciting!!!

Make sure you follow your medical teams advice. Like MsLisa stated all programs are different and there really is no right or wrong way to do it other than to follow your teams plan and you will do good. I was out of work for two weeks and probably could have gone back a few days prior to that because I have had no issues at all. You do need to heal so think of that as well, you don't want to rush back if you don't have to.

The shakes do count towards your total liquid count each day and get used to the shakes because they will become a big part of your life whether you like them or not. Another piece of advice is try different kinds, change it up so you don't have to drink the same ones over and over. Best of luck to you hope all goes well!!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. You’ve already gotten some great advice I’ll just say in regards to returning to work all depends on your job. You won’t be able to put any pressure on your abds. No pushing and pulling motion like vacuuming. You will have lifting restrictions for 6-8wks. It nice if your able to just focus on your diet and walking which can seem like a full time job. You will be amazed how easy this surgery is in regards to pain. But there is some work involved in getting enough fluids in. Keep everything in mind when you figure out how much time to take off work. It’s an amazing journey your about to go on. Hope everything goes well for you. Happy to answer any questions. 58AE0AD6-263F-41DB-BFF9-C03540909B6F.jpeg

I'm not sure about the protein/liquids question, but I will tell you that I took a week and a half off from work and that was plenty. I also have a desk job, so no strenuous activity. It definitely depends on what work is for you.

Yep my Dr has me count protein shakes as part of my water intake.

I took 3 weeks off work but would have been find if I had to go back in a week.
