At 1 month post-op....what was your energy level? Was it the same as previous? More than? Less than?
How about your mental/emotional state at 1 month post-op?
Thanks All!
The first two weeks were "interesting" with energy, particularly week 1 with only liquids. By the end of the month, I felt I was at least 90% back to normal. The main transition for me was learning portion size, with lots of help from my stomach...
I was working but still not back to normal. It was a full 6 weeks before my energy was back. Now it’s been 11 weeks and in hindsight, I wasn’t 100% at 6 weeks. I’m 66 and I think that is why I was slow to bounce back. Still, definitely worth the effort! #noregrets
I never noticed a change in energy level at any stage. I mean the first two days I was a little tired from the hospital stay and the fluids and drugs they give you. I was fine after that and never noticed any low energy levels at all. I had no pain right after surgery and I went home the next day. I think I was very lucky to feel that way.
I will say at one month I was totally normal and had no issues and I felt great. I truly believe it is important to follow your medical team's advice and I think that makes a difference. Just my .02 cents. Hope your journey goes well!!

VSG Surgery April 20, 2018
Height 6'2
High Weight 354 lbs
Surgery Weight 333 lbs
One month post-op I was pretty fully recovered physically from the VSG surgery. However, 4 weeks post-VSG I had my gallbladder out. However, my recovery from that was VERY FAST. Probably less than a week.
By one month post-op, mentally and emotionally I was fine. I had begun to figure out the food dealio, which immediately post-op is a bit tricky -- mushy this, mashed this, puree this, try a few bites of stuff. But I was definitely past the point of being weirded out about any of it. I'd figured out that life was different now, but it was rapidly getting different-better.
Having said this, I was basically a healthy fat 68-year-old -- yes, I have been on thyroid medication for decades (still am) and had arthritis in my knees (without any symptoms now that I've lost 100 pounds). But pre-op I didn't suffer from or take any meds for diabetes, heart disease, kidney issues, etc. I also have never been diagnosed with depression or anxiety or other mental/emotional issues that some people must be medicated for in various ways. The only meds I took pre-surgery were levothyroxine (for a low-functioning thyroid) and antacids. Those are the same two meds I still take today.
Obviously, I was post-menopausal, so I didn't suffer much from the dump of hormones into my blood stream that had long been stored in fat that was rapidly breaking down. Truly, that hormonal dump thing can run both men and women ragged who are in their 30s, 40s and even 50s.
Sometimes it's good to be old.
